I've had several Ghias over the years and still have two. But I've always used loud, high efficiency speakers with them- like the V30, H30, C. Blue, Emi Tonker, Emi Tonkerlite, Emi Lil' Texas, 10" Emi Ramrod and of course the 10" Emi Red Fang Alnico. You get the picture.
Now I need to go the other direction so I'm thinking a G10 Greenback. I know it's a 95 db speaker but have no idea what that volume level will be like in actual practice. So my questions are 1.) will it still require a Brakelite for home playing, and 2.) will it have enough huevos left at all for playing out?
Also, will the stock Dr. Z speaker leads clip right on to the G10 tabs or is it solder on?

I love the 10 Greenback in my 1x10 Ghia. It's hard to answer the questions about the break lite though without knowing what your tonal goal is. For me, I like my Ghia to break up a bit, that usually means my volume knob is above 11 o'clock. That is still pretty loud so you may still want the brake. I would think there is still plenty left in the tank for gigging though. 95bd (I hope referencing DB doesnt get me a letting from a lawyer) is still pretty loud. Again, depending in what your tonal goals are . . . . Hope this helps, going from 98+ speakers down to 95 is still a pretty big step. It will sound awesome too! My 2 cents, Todd

I just replaced the Z speaker with a Greenback and there was no issue with the wiring harness.
The Greenback breaks up earlier and is a good fit for the Ghia.

Hey Stephen, do you think you can explain your speaker swap in terms of volume levels? i.e., the Greenback was the same volume at 11:00 as the Z speaker was at 9:00....If that makes any sense at all. I’m interested in this post as well but in terms of volume levels. I understand that the G10 will break up sooner.

Man....going from a Blue and V30...down to a 10" greenback. That will be a significant drop in volume.
But will you need a brakelite for playing at home? I dunno..I don't know how loud you play at home. Will it have enough gas left for playing out? I dunno, it depends on how loud your band is.
Sorry to be vague, but one person's loud, can be another person's quiet. (or acceptable)

Are we talking about a comparison to the Z 16 ohm 10" speaker?

After trying the Ramrod 10, Gold 10, Greenback 10 and Brake-Lite with all... I ended up with just the Greenback 10 and no Brake-Lite. Again, not sure about your home playing levels. This set-up let me play quiet enough at home and still be plenty loud playing out.

I obviously realize that "quiet" and "loud" are subjective terms but it's good to hear that it has worked for someone.

I have a g10 greenback in a custom 1x10 can with a 3 piece back. I keep my ghia volume around 11. It always has a Mic on it and it is plenty for my gig. Without the Mic it may struggle a little because my drummer is really hard hitting.
Full disclosure though, my ghia runs in stereo with my maz so, it isn't really there for volume so much as texture.
