Gold with a Ghia!

I just had to write a post about a Gold Celestion with my Ghia. Jaguarguy(Mike) suggested I try the Ghia with a gold! Thanks Mike! You Sir are so right!
I ran a speaker shoot-out yesterday with a couple of Z's, the Ghia being the main target. Let me just say I have LOVED the Celestion Blue with my Ray's, Maz18, Z-Plus and even my Monza and Mini Z.

All speakers were 12". At first I tried the Ghia with my Cream back (M). Great sound! Then the Blue! Even better!! A little more clear sounding. IMHO.

I have 2 blues in the house so I tired them both. The Blue in my Z-plus combo is still not as warm as my nicely broken in older Blue I use with my beloved Ray head but still sounded great like a Blue. Then I tried the Gold in my Ray Combo. It's about 4 years old and has many hours of use. 
WoW! That was Magic! I just made one little tone adjustment ( cause It's a Ghia  )and then I played for about 20-25 minutes when I remembered what I was suppose to be doing. This AMP SINGS!!! I liked it with the Creamback and Blue a lot, but with a Gold it was special!! I switched back to a Blue then back to the Gold and was sold!!! Gold it is! 
For fun I ran the Ghia through my bassman cab loaded with a V30 and 70th ann. a 4ohm load. I didn't like that so much at all. 

I did the same with my Z Plus, Ray's and Maz 18. 

End result:
Dr. Z 1x12 Cab with Gold for: Ghia and Maz 18 heads.
Dr. Z 1x12 Cab with Blue for: Stangray Head and extension for Z Plus Studio 1x12 cab with Blue.
Cream back will go in the StangRay 1x12 Combo with Dr. Z Brake-lite. 

I had the Maz paired with the Cream back but it too sounded great with the Gold and new tubes!
Side note the Z-Plus with 2 Blues was really nice sounding.

Try a Ghia with a Gold!

I use a 10'' Gold for everything british-voiced at his point. It sounds too good to think about something else, to be honest.

Headroom with gold 10"? as much as dr z's 10" speaker?....im digging tone with z speaker so I am a little reluctant to yank it.

I never had the variety of speakers to try that you do but the Gold was my favorite 1x12 with the Ghia also. 2x12, it was a Weber ceramic Blue\Silver combo. You run a Ray through a 15 watt 1x12 Blue?!? I was never brave enough to try that. The Ray was the amp that convinced me I needed a Gold. The Ray and Ghia are long gone but 12 years later, I still have that old Gold speaker in a 2x12 cab.

Ive got an Alnico Gold 10" in my Mini Z. The overdriven sound of that speaker is awesome. Don't use pedals anymore, just roll back the volume on the guitar.
Im planning to buy a CG head soon, Im going to plonk it on top of the mini Z and use it as a speaker box for the head until I get a separate speaker box for it.

Thatll probably have a 12" Gold in it.

EDIT: Just picked up a second hand 12” Gold with 1 hour of use for less than half street price! Now I gotta buy a cab.... :-)
