So, I have a Special Design that I installed EL34's for the customer (the Antidote prototype). All was fine. During the bench test, I noticed it was very loud and very clean. Actually reminded me of my 1972 Orange 120 watt head that was a beautiful clean, but no breakup until you about dimed it (and soaked it! Or, used 20 shipping blankets over the cab!).
But, inserting the footswitch was a whole different story. Now I had respectable levels and much breakup depending on channel selection. Doc, and others, is this the typical operation you come to expect from the Antidote? I haven't taken the time to map out the switching. But, all switching is working. I was just really surprised that even the insertion of the footswitch made that significant a difference.
My assumption is some circuit addition is changing the impedance in that area (of switching) that's making a notable difference. It'll get sent back to the customer...it's behaving quite nice as it is. Very impressive once you 'add footswitch' to the equation.
Would welcome a comment to know if others experience the same thing. ? I realize by 'Special Design' that it is indeed a prototype and maybe this is a non-common factor.
Thanks, Brad

Doesn't sound like my Antidote. However, I don't have the ability to run EL34'. I almost always use the Airbrake on it because it is seriously loud, but at 10:30 11:00 on volume I get some nice hair depending on guitar volume and of course as you go up the dial the fun continues. A lot of touch response to this gem also. I can back off with the right hand and clean up or dig in a little harder even at less than full guitar volume and get wonderful overtones. I don't know if this helps, but I hope it gives a little insight.

I suppose my real question would be (regardless of EL34's), have you always used (had inserted) the footswitch? Or, do you play without one? My larger interest in it is the marked difference of behavior with & without it. (Besides just the channel switching gone).

Don't really use the foot-switch much. There is no difference unless engaged, then it becomes louder. I have the variable boost switch which allows to me to taper the boost, but opened all the way the boost might be the gain from a near maxed drive pedal. Sorry I don't have a sense of a specific db measurement. Hope this helps.
