If you played classic rock and blues in small venues, would you get the Z speaker or the red fang?

Had 1/10 with red fang...lots of volume from that speaker...

Frankly, I'd probably get either speaker and replace it with the Celestion G10 Greenback. Fantastic 10" speaker... one of the best 10's around.

I don't think they make the Red Fang 10" anymore but it's a real kicker.

I have to agree with Mark on the G10 Greenback, especially if you are looking for some natural amp breakup. The GB will let you turn the amp up a bit more, and the more open the Ghia is, the better it sounds.

I don't think they make the Red Fang 10" anymore but it's a real kicker. Still available as of Aug. 2016 August 2016 I noticed that the 10” alnico Red Fang was absent from the Eminence website and fired off an e-mail asking if it was a discontinued item. In response, I received: “Yes, Red Fang 10 was discontinued from our stock line, but we can still produce them for you in our custom shop.” Best Regards, ANTHONY LUCAS Technical Support/Tone Specialist O: (502) 845-5622 ext. 341 F: (502) 845-5653 EMINENCE SPEAKER, LLC P.O. Box 360 838 Mulberry Pike Eminence, KY 40019 Still curious, I asked why, and received: “We did not sell enough to justify keeping them in stock.”

I would be worried about the greenback being loud enough. It depends on how loud the band is.
But either the Z speaker or the fang will be fine.

Humbucker sells them with the Z speaker standard or a red fang for $139 more.

What about a 10" Gold? It's so good in a Ghia that it's nuts. Why limit your choices, Steven? I'm confused...it's been a long day.

+1 for the Gold.

That’s a good point. Humbucker doesn’t offer the gold as an option, but I could get the Z speaker and buy a gold for $175 from Sweetwater.
I had a red fang in my Z-28, but that amp would not break up in a small club. I had to be outside to crank it.

I had a gold in mine....it was great. But it came with a fang...I didn't like it, but I needed a specific tone. but there are many that like the fang with the ghia...I just wasn't one of them.

After having the new ghia for a few days to putz with...I am really loving the tone out of this thing...I keep telling myself..."let it sound as good out live please!"...as for now I have no urgent want to change out the Z speaker.
I am really impressed with this speaker/amp...This little guy sounds way big for a ten...volume and tone full.

Depends on how much volume you need. I replaced my RF with a Gold and lost too much headroom. The Gold sounded good but I needed the headroom, so the RF went back in. It's a great sounding speaker.
As an alternative, check out the Eminence C-Rex. It's voiced a lot like the Z speaker (IMO) and is almost 3db more efficient.

I got the Z speaker in my CG. I have no plans to change it right away. If I do, I will take my Z-Brothers’ advice and get a Greenback or a Gold.

Update: I decided on a Greenback and couldn’t be happier with it. It breaks up at lower volumes and sounds sweet with pedals.
