I am thinking of trying a blue from another amp in the Cure. Any problems with power handling or speaker flatulence? Too bright? Thanks!

I haven't tried a Blue, but I did replace the stock speaker with an Eminence C-Rex. Love it.

I haven't tried the Blue w/the Cure yet, but with the Therapy or a 5E3 Tweed Deluxe it does get flabby pretty quickly. Not a tight bass at all. For some reason, though, it rocks my world with my Ghia. No fartyness, it sounds great with that amp.

I haven’t felt the need to try anything beisdes the z12 in mine. I can say that the blue would not be my first thought as far as a speaker goes for this amp.

Seems unlikely that one can beat the Z12 in this amp; over 100 views on this thread and not one “the blue rocks in the Cure”. I think i have my answer and don’t need to get my lazy butt up and try it! Cheers!

I tried it for a few days. Its exactly what you would expect if you are familiar with a blue. It made the z very Vox like and I LOVED it with my humbucker guitars. If I only played Gibsons I would leave it in for keeps. Surprisingly the Z12 was louder to my ear. I will also say that there is not much if any headroom with the blue as the Cure already breaks up early like a tweed deluxe.
I'm a tube and speaker tweaker typically but I have to say the Cure is dialed in and doesn't really improve with swaps to my ear.

Thanks for the reply. I know what you mean, I really love the Z12 speaker. I even use one in my only non-Z amp that ever gets any play. It’s true - you cant really “upgrade” or improve much if anything on a Z. The Doc has the knowledge and reasources to get it right before releasing his amps, right down to the tube positions. Makes it tough on us tinkerers. Maybe I’ll try it with the Maz 8 one day, nah probably not. I’ll find a use for it sometime. Thanks again!

I tried my Blue with my Maz 8, then the G12H30, and went back to the Z-12 speaker. It really satisfies the itch.
