I just completed building my new house and my Z amps sound brittle, thin metallic in the music room, no matter the settings. It’s 16X20, real wood floor with two area rugs. There is one spot in the room that’s anout 21’ high and the rest of the ceiling is 9’ high. That tall spot goes up to a window and is about 4’X6’. Weird I know but beautiful.
So do I need sound dampers? Is so then where should they be placed? Any tips will be appreciated!

I built a studio with blue jean insulation and quiet rock, inside the studio sound bounces all around like a ping pong ball. I have a couple of big boxes of bass traps and dampeners ready to hang. I might suggest starting with Auralex acoustics. You can send them a detailed plan and they will design the sound panels and placement. There are other's out there that offer that service as well. Let us know how that goes. I was going to do a video of my little studio with a before and after theme. I'm interested in seeing photos of the house and studio. BV

No specific advice, Shane, but there must be books and online advice on setting up home studios. (You probably found these already.) Eric Ambel (roscoenyc here on Z Talk) knows a lot about studio / room adjustment. I think he's posted here on the topic.

Last I checked photo bucket was giving me a hard time about something that I can’t rememenr now, so I basically had to stop posting after my new guitar. Anyway, my feeling is telling me that I need to get some of those acoustic wall hanging things. I can’t remember what their called. I also think the big culprit is the high 4X6 space that leads up to the window. One thing about this room is that it’s not a recording studio, just a jam room. I’m not looking for perfect acoustics.

The worst reflections in almost any room come from the ceiling. Pictures would help as far as advise goes. Whatever you do, do not purchase any "foam type products" They don't work. What you are looking for is "absorption". The best products are made with Owens Corning 703 or Cotton Ultra-touch. There are pretty affordable pre-made panels from ATS acoustics and GIK. If you are just trying to tame bouncing high end and not bass buildup the 2" thick ones will probably work for you. Are you just playing electric guitar or do you have other guys over there too? (drums) Here's a couple links and please, stay away from anything that is made of foam. Foam is for pillows. www.atsacoustics.comwww.gikacoustics.comAnd Merry Christmas too!

I really need to post pics of the room. Last I checked photo bucket was giving me a hard time about something that I can’t rememenr now, so I basically had to stop posting after my new guitar. Photobucket started seeking fees for pictures one posts to "third party sites" like Z Talk. Try imgur, which Matt (Lefty) suggested.

There is a forum on Gearslutz.com that goes into some detail about systematic improvements on room acoustics, as well as measuring.
