Hey,
Back to the fold they say. (Mostly a lurker here, but sometimes I have a Z I stop by more often.)
On Saturday I received a 2002 Carmen Ghia I snagged off of Reverb. I had a 1x12 combo two years ago next month and opted for a head unit this time. I only had 5 minutes with it this week due to the family/work thing. Only had a chance to run it with my 3 Monkeys combo cab loaded with a Hellatone a25 alnico. (The a25 is a kind of Blue inspired mix of a Greenback and a g12h30) This CG sounds really good to my ears, green jewel and all.
I went to take a look at the tubes this morning and noted that the transformer looked a little 'skewed'. I can't find any damage anywhere, nothing bent, warped, etc. It just looks like one side is flush with the chassis, and the other is not. Pix to follow: (I hope.) I reached out to Calfzilla as I know he had a similar problem once before. Thoughts?

Sweet...I never buy used but I should buy an old Mazerati (or similar) so I can put a little TLC into an amp and bring her back to life !
The tranny should be fine...just got out of joint a little along the way from shipping/constant moving, etc.

You can probably pull it off an straighten the "ears" and re-mount flush, IF YOU KNOW ALL ABOUT STORED LETHAL ELECTRICITY IN AMPS EVEN WHEN THEY ARE TURNED OFF!

I got a cure in trade, think I have the same thing with transformer. Mine seems fine to me, in fact I forgot about it until I read this post.

All good folks. A decent price for a more than decent amp! Put it up to noon last night and it sounded great and worked without flaw.
This one sounds a bit different than the 2012 1x12 combo I had. Could be the older model or the different speakers. (I bought the combo with a Tone Tubby Red and then swapped it for a MIE Greenback.) Have some tinkering to do with the tone control (had it at 1pm last night) but will be swapping in some tubes and will consider a speaker swap. It just sounds a bit harsh/bright in the upper mids. I have the a25, a Blue, and Green Beret, but may consider a Scumback m75 or Weber Blue to shelve a bit of the highs. Fun stuff!

You'll find that the Ghia is really responsive to changes in tubes and speakers. I have a 1x10 cab with a Celestion Gold that I love with this amp. Strangely it sounds better than the 12" cabs, at least to my ear.
