Threw a quad of grooves in my senior. Never used grooves before so I figured why not. They were rated at 4. I like a little grit so I figured why not.
Well, I don't like them at all. They've been in a week. Very harsh treble response and the bottom end is very flabby. Sounds like I'm using a fuzz pedal when I use my neck pickup. I play telecasters.
Volume-noon Treble-9 Mids-11 Bass-2 Reverb-9 Cut-around 10 Master-1030-11ish
I usually go with EHX because my Maz shipped with those in it from the factory. I also didn't realise until today that EHX marks their tubes as soft medium and hard. Does anyone know which ones the doc puts in the Maz from the factory?
The other guitarist in my band bought a set of grooves for his hotrod and he noticed a bright stiffness to his amp too.
Is it just us? Anyone else using them with better results?

Sorry, don't know the answer to your question, but I do know according to the z site the doc is using jj's in the 38 for the power section. I go through eurotubes to get my jj's and have had a great experience. Had one el84 red plate about a year back and since it had been within 6 months of purchasing, eurotubes sent me a new el84 within the same spec of my original order. Great people to deal with

I would try some of Perry Roper's tubes. There not EL 84's but a Russian variation. I have them in my Maz 18 and Maz 8.

Well, I threw a set of EHX tubes in and I have the same problem. Now I'm told I could have a cap going bad in the tone stack? Any thoughts?
