Well I don't know about the Z28 but I'd say the big difference with the Cure from all other Z's I've played is the TRIAD transformer......it has a sag and softness that really get a vintage sound. Old Fender or Supro or Gibson kinda singing and sweet.
Other Z amps are tighter and more crisp. The Z 28 will be more powerful and louder.

I think the Galaxies had a TRAID transformer. Thanks simpleton that's good info.

...i think the big diff is that the Cure is crazy versatile....and can be tweaked to find many different tones from clean to mean.....the similarities are that they both use 6v6 power tubes and can cop some brown and blackface tones although those tones are dipped in Z's special sauce....

Both great...just different flavors.
The Z-28 is hard to 'categorize'. It's hard to say "sounds like a '____' amp". Very original in tone and feel.
Personally, I don't see a Z-28 getting anywhere near a blackface tone. Blackfaces have scooped mids. And that's one thing the Z-28 surly does not have.
