My Cure arrived today. I am really impressed with this amp. Right out the box I liked the clean and the overdrive tones. Its nice and lightweight too yet it does not sound boxy at all. As far as the bass goes Its loose but it still sounds great. I don't know what the big deal was on the lack of bass somebody was complaining about I guess to each his own. I was able to get nice bass tone out of mine. I think the amp is voiced perfect. The amp is like Simpleton quoted smooth! Real organic warm and rich maybe not as pristine as the Z-lux but pretty darn close. I was going back and forth between the Z-lux and the Cure and the Cure was holding its own with it. Its a special amp in its own right. Not trying to compare them. Just trying to see how close they are in tone and they are both excellent. The Cure also has some Therapy flavor in it too. I don't know how the Doc does it but he just keeps on giving us players what we want and that's excellent tone! I can see this amp becoming a huge hit and maybe even out selling some of the more popular Z amps. Thanks Doc for another masterpiece.

If it was a pocket amp I'd take mine everywhere I went.
Some new amps feel like they need a break in period, but the Cure really is like a comfy pair of jeans....already broke in feeling. It was my first studio cab, and I really like the depth it has more so than my earlier 1x10 combos. More low end but still Lite weight.
Enjoy!

Totally agree on the broken in feeling I was thinking man the speaker isn't even broken in yet and it sounds so good! I had a studio combo before and regretting selling it. So when the cure came out it made it easy for me to get back into one. You really can't beat the studio combos for grab and Go's and now one with 6V6 tubes in it for me is even a better scenario.

I am new to Dr. Z amps. I was at the Chicago Music Exchange the other day and tried out the cure. I liked it a lot, and I'm looking for a dr Z to use in the bedroom or down in my basement. Would the MAZ 8 W be a better option? Dose anybody know what the sound differential would be. I have never heard of the MAZ 8. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The maz 8 is el84 based and the cure uses 6v6 tubes. So it really depends on what type of tone you prefer. I would say either one would be great for your needs. I had a maz 8 and it was just not powerful enough for me in gigging situations. I personally prefer the Cure because I can gig with it and it also is great as a home amp. If I only played at home the maz 8 would be great too.

The LEVEL control on the Cure makes it a better and more flexible home amp than the Maz8. Although Dr Z PPIV master volumes work amazingly....the level control lets you get a wider array of sounds at any volume. Plus more power for playing gigs or with friends!

Yes that a great point that simpleton made that level control is awesome. I am taking my Cure to Church today to test it out👍

Well, i jumped off the cliff and bought the Cure today. I have been playing with it over the last few hours and you guys where right, it's perfect for lower volumes as well. I am very pleased so far. I will go more in detail after a few days but so far, so very good!

I was going to offer up a perspective on Cure vs MAZ 8, but I guess that's less helpful now I would have spoken up sooner, but I keep my MAZ 8 in a different location and was not able to listen to it when you posted originally. The main thing I was going to say was that even at 8 watts the MAZ 8 is loud for home use. The amp really sings at higher settings of the Master, but then you need an attenuator to bring the volume down. The Cure's Level takes care of that. The power difference is not that big a deal. Pairing an efficient speaker with the MAZ 8 will pretty much match what the Cure delivers.
