A member of this forum was nice enough to sell me his Maz Jr NR. I am excited, but I am wondering what cabinet I should use. I am looking forward to doing my own experimentation, but I am interested to find out what has worked for other. I have a Mesa closed back thile 1x12 cabinet and a Mesa 2x12 cabinet. I used to always use the 2x12's with my Rivera amp, but recently I was surpirsed at how well the 1x12 sounded and its a nice easy rig for gigging. What do you think? DOes everyone use Z cabinets with their Z amps?

I use a couple different things with Z's. I use Fender bassman cabinets (cause I have a couple good ones). They are easy to find pretty cheap either orig or knock off. I like to pull the fiberglass out of the old ones. I also use Gibson SuperGoldtone that is a pretty interesting cab (2 x 10" open, 2 x 12" closed) and I have a Z Best cab at my studio. It is probably the biggest of the 3. I think the MAZ 18 likes 2 12's better than one.

I have an avatar 1x12 cab with a Eminence Wizard. It sounds great, lots of bottom and it weighs only 35lbs. The price and service is great too.

I use my maz jr NR head with a THd 2x12 cab. Haven't tried the z-best, but the THD works very well with the MAZ jr. Very lightweight. Nice looking!

I still think the Z 2 x 10 cab is killer with anything, and small to boot.

Thanks for answering Zane,
i think i'm gonna go with that fender cab, Anyway i think i could make an open back with it if the closed doesn't match...or changing one speaker ...
The super Z will be for next christmas.

The tone of a Maz Jr Reverb and a Z Best 2X10 cab is what sold me on Z Amps in the first place some years ago. I still have yet to hear a better combination. Come to think of it now, that cab sounded terrific with a host of Marshall, Tophat, Matchless and Badcat heads as well.

I haven't used a Z cab with my Maz 18 Jr NR, but I do have a Jenkins Highway 61 w/ British G12H-30s which seems to make every amp sound great and the Maz 18 is no exception. The H61 w/ G12H-30s seems to be a perfect match for the Maz 18. I have also found that the G12H-30s are a perfect match for the latest FD2 pedals, almost regardless of which amp is between them.

I use my maz jr NR head with a THd 2x12 cab. Haven't tried the z-best, but the THD works very well with the MAZ jr. Very lightweight. Nice looking! I just recently ran a friend's THD 2x12 head-to-head with my Jenkins H61 and it was no contest. The THD sounded small, thin, quiet and harsh, compared to the Jenkins, which sounded more like a raging 4x12 next to the THD. However, that said, with some EQ tweaks and much more volume, the THD started to come alive. So, it seems to need substantial volume and less highs coming out of the amp to really sound its best. It also has a tighter, but much smaller, low end than the Jenkins, which seems to serve it well when its pushing LOTS of power. I think it would also sound better with different speakers. My friend's had the latest custom THD speakers, not the aged CL80s. But, teh Maz 18 seems to prefer G12H-30s and a nice wide open-back cab.

Just got the Maz 18 1x12 combo...always been a Fender combo user, and never messed with extensions. I could see a little more bottom with the 18, but with the 4 ohm out, can I use an 8 ohm ext, or do I need to stick with 4 ohms...I have a bassman bottom which is 4 ohms, but wondering if the 18 will drive both? I have heard the avatar closed back swamp thangs will thump nicely. Anyone added a Z single 12 ext?
Lovin' this little puppy-retiring the 88 pound Concert Reverb-my ears say ahhhhhhhhh, my back says oooooooooooyahh
Thanks...
