So as of three weeks ago I am the proud owner of my first Dr Z. A Maz 18 NR 2x12 2016 model. I've already bought some spare power tubes and was lucky enough to find a good deal on a matched set of NOS 6N14Ns.
I'm wondering what kinds of 12AX7s people are using on these amps or if theres a good combo of brands that work best?
i.e Reflektor power tubes with Mullard pre amp tubes, EHX with Tung-Sol, etc. etc.
What sounds good?
Thanks

New Production (NP):
1) I did a "V1 tube rolling" exercise a few years back with an amp with a topography similar to a Fender Princeton Reverb. My "winner" was Tung-Sol 12AX7, followed by Ruby 7025STR (out of production), followed by a NOS JAN Phillips 12AX7.
2) My MAZ has NP Svetlana 12AX7's in V1 and V2 and I'm very happy with the sound. The rest of the tubes are those spec's for the current production MAZ Jr Reverb including a set of "soft" 6n14n that I purchased from PerryR.
I can't offer much help with US or Western European (NOS) tubes.

ive tried em all over the years,, i just got a couple quads of the 6n14n tubes from perry and havent looked back, i have an even balance of el84 amps and 6L6 ones,,,i have not found a 12ax7 that blows my sox off,, some are very similar it seems,, maybe my ears are not as good anymore,,, my first duet of mullard xf2s i bought from a fellow online many years ago sounded ok, but i told the guy i couldnt really tell a whole lot if they were better than current production and he was offended and told me i shouldnt buy nos tubes,,heh heh,,,i also have a super reverb and an allen brown sugar

I like their EL84s so what the hell.

Where are you guys sourcing your reflektors from? I've gotten some off ebay before but 1 set was really dull sounding, and the others sound better but can never feel confident in what I'm getting from there.

Are you referring to the 6N14N tubes? If so, this was posted by Dr Z:
The correct 6N14N NOS Russian Military EL 84's are now available from fellow forumite " perryr " or at perry@3-cities.com.
