I'm going to buy a Ghia head and I'm planning to use it as my main tone for country and country/rock tones with my Teles and a Gretsch. I don't need too much gain and/or crystal cleans, I just want to hear a nice low to medium natural breakup and use the guitar's volume pot for cleans. I'm also planning to use an attenuator for home and studio (where I play the most), maybe even for small gigs. So... 1x10 or 1x12 cab? (Gotta be a Dr. Z cab in the first place?) Loud speaker with hard attenuation, quite speaker with less attenuation, an half-way? Which are the most effective, most used and common choices for a Ghia? H30 should offer a little bit mor clean headroom according to Dr. Z suggestions, 12'' Celestion Gold is also a common choice, but I'm open to all kind of suggestions.
I'm not into cab/speakers that much because I always bought combos.

I run a 1x10 cab with a Red Fang. I do not attenuate. Plenty of headroom for playing with a drummer yet overdrive is easily reachable.

I've got a 1x10 open back Celestion Gold cab that I prefer over my 1x12. No attenuator here either.

I have a 1x10 combo with a Celestion Gold; I have also used a Mather 1x12 studio combo with a Celestion Gold. Not much difference between the two speakers although the 1x10 seems to be a little more "immediate, or punchy" to my old decrepit ears.

Howdy,
We have similar tonal aims, TelePrankster. My two favorite speakers for my 1x12 Z cab (and 2008 Ghia head) are in no particular order, the Celestion Blue for somewhat lower volume breakup and Weber's 30 watt AlniCo silver bell for more bass, better cleans and later break up. Good luck!

I found a nex 1x12 Dr. Z cab (red) with a Vintage 30 speaker and an used 1x12 with a G12 H30. The difference in price is not so big, do you have experience with these two speakers? The Vintage 30 seems a classic choice for cabs, maybe I should try tat and see if I want something else in the future, I don't know.

So a Blue works ok even though they are rated at 15 watts and the Ghia is 18 watts?

Here'a what I'm doing along these lines:
I converted my Z28 head into a 1x10 Z cabinet several years ago and have been running my Ghia Anni through a Mesa 1x12 open back cabinet with C90 or through a Fender Pro Junior cabinet with an Eminence Ramrod.
Although there is certainly nothing wrong with the Z28 1x10 combo, I've pretty much decided to put the Anni up for sale, get a regular size Carmen Ghia, swap it into the 1x10 combo and put the Z28 chassis in the Ghia head cabinet. I hear excellent reviews here about the CG/CGold 1x10 and after 6 years of playing the Z28 through various speaker configurations, I think that the 28's potential will be best optimized with a 12 inch speaker (or two: I also have a Carvin open back 2x12 cabinet with WGS ET65 and G12cs).

I suppose if you insisted on using your Ghia's volume knob at or near full volume all the time, the Blue would eventually die, but for normal use your 'Blue should go on perhaps indefinitely. I keep my Ghia's vol. knob at around the 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. range..my 'Blue runs like a top. Don't forget the excellent Weber AlNiCo silver bell

I ended up buying a 1x10 cab hand made by an italian guy with a Celestion Gold. My Ghia sounds great, thanks for your help.
