Thinking about pulling the trigger on a Z Lux. I am just wondering about portability of the combo at gigs. Is it easy to carry up stairs, etc... ?? How would it compare to my Maz 8 Studio combo? Getting older and weaker.... ... in body not mind!! Thanks, Mike

I'm old and I gig with mine. I have the head and Z-Best 2x12. They are very heavy! Both in road cases. i'm of the opinion "Roadies are more important than groupies."
I can't give you a weight comparison. But, i was thinking that splitting them up would be easier on my old body. That "divide and concur" thought process. I'm sure the head is lighter than a "head and 1x12" as a combo. It's a tone beast!! Worth every pound i have to hoof.
Probably not much help to you.

The Z-Lux weighs 42 pounds and the Maz 8 studio combo weighs 45 pounds, according to the Dr Z website. The studio combo cabinet is smaller and maybe a little easier to handle. I have gigged with both and both are easy to transport.

Thanks, Mike Not sure about the Maz 8, but my Maz 18 Studio Combo weighs 38.70 lbs. as opposed to 45.65 lbs. for my Z-Lux (with no power cord or footswitches). The difference feels like more than just 7 pounds though, for what it's worth. The Maz Studio Combo is just one of the easiest-carrying big sound amps I've ever picked up. I don't know why, but it just is. Mine weighs almost exactly the same as my Carmen Ghia 1x10 RF combo but the Maz totes much easier.

I had the maz 18 studio combo and regret selling it. It was the perfect grab and go. I now have the Z-Lux and I gig mine every weekend. It's heavier to me then the studio was. Not that much though. No complaints on the tone that's for sure. I have to carry mine up and down my steps. Its not that bad.

It's under 45 lbs. Not only about the same as a MAZ in studio combo, but only 5 lbs more than 1x10 Carmen Ghia combo.

Thanks for all the replies! I am so used to carrying the Maz 8 Studio, I guess the Z-Lux just felt awkward to me. I think the weight won't be a factor. I am going to check one out this weekend, I'll send an update. Seems like everyone absolutely loves the tone from the amp and that is all that really matters in the end, right? Do I feel a little nudge to buy one? Anyone??

My MAZ 8 Studio combo just makes me happy.... My buddy has the Z-Lux and i found it considerably heavier than the 8. Both are KIlLER amps though.

They all have sounded really good too but the Z-Lux is a cut above the rest IMHO.

There's not hardly any difference from one quality amp (within the same model) and another because component tolerances are much closer now than in years past. But I think some guitars are significantly better than others. So when you find one that speaks to you, grab it if you can.
