I don't own a Ghia, but whenever I've had an amp with a single tone control, I've always liked to use boosts and overdrives with a full complimentary tone stack. I also like to pick speakers that accent the frequencies that might not be as immediate in the amp. Of course, an EQ can pretty much do all of these tasks on its own and it's a reason they are usually highly recommended.

The Z Drive will give you three-band active eq and two flavors of boost/OD units in one package. Great complement to the CG.

A speaker change fixed my EQ needs tone wise. I used a Skreddy Screwdriver for my boost/drive needs. I miss my Ghia...such a pure amp. It really got me playing and not twiddling knobs all the time.

A speaker change fixed my EQ needs tone wise. I too would look into a speaker change if you're not getting the tone you want. Also open back vs closed back.

My question was more out of curiousity than need.
I have been interested in the Z-drive. A video review out there shows how to use it with the Ghia to add to the amp's awesome tone control but also have two channels of dirt. I really like my Ghia's tone and love its own overdrive. I can't see needing more than that. So, I'm wondering if adding a EQD Tone Job (which the Z-drive tone controls are based on) would be a nice to add eq options, boost capability but no extra drive (just the guitar volume). Can the Z-drive be set with no added drive?

...i'm normally a "no rules" kinda guy....but....the soul of a Ghia is in that single tone knob....why mess with perfection??? Very True! I went ahead and purchased a Tone Job because 1) I have a gift certificate for a local guitar shop 2) curiosity and 3) I'd really like a Z-Drive but red/green LEDs don't work with my red/green colorblind eyes. After a couple days of tweaking, I think it is going back. Every time I bypass the pedal, I prefer the tone of the Ghia straight, no chaser. It was nice to tweak the tone of ODs before or after but I do not use OD much with the Ghia. I like its own OD. Another nice use was to add some sparkle back with high attenuation settings (BL at 3 or 4). Personally I do not take the Brake-lite pass two clicks so this does not help me but if you are in a low volume environment, this could be a nice feature. O
