I've always wanted a Mazerati (although I've never heard one live) but obviously they are discontinued.
I know there a not many DB4 owners here yet (and even fewer with a Mazerati), but does anybody have any notion as to how the DB4 stacks up against the Mazerati sonically?
Ive been toying with getting either a new Z-Lux-type amp (Princeton-esque combo) or maybe a DB-4 head.

Definitely not! Clean versus mean. We were playing ZLux, DB4 and Mazerati last night. Definitely not the same sonically (though all three at the same time sounded great!

If I don't pull the trigger on the Princeton-style combo I may take a chance on the DB-4. The half-power switch would definitely come in handy for me too.

I received my DB4 yesterday and only had a couple minutes to play it. I also own a Mazerati V2 1x12 combo with a Celestion Gold. They are very different amps. The DB4 is a bit darker and it begins to overdrive much sooner than the Mazerati. The Mazerati is a very loud, very clean amp. It will overdrive if you turn the volume past noon but not to the extent as the DB4. The DB4 also has a half power switch so you can get it to give up the goods much sooner. I love my Mazerati for clean tones as well as a pedal platform for different flavors of overdrive pedals. I always wondered why Doc didn't reintroduce the Mazerati again but I think the DB 4 fills that spot with the 4 EL84's in his line. Both are great amps.

I guess I wasn't expecting the Mazerati to be so clean. I thought that maybe it would have more Marshall-sequel crunch lower on the dial. Im not looking for a clean amp. I want a darker amp with great crunch since I have plenty of Z's that I can run clean and bright! The notion of the half power switch appeals to me as well. This will be used in the house so I'm sure I could run the full power mode and get the amp to stay clean. i would get a head and run it with my Z 212 with Blues. Hmmmmm.....

You might be thinking of the Mazerati GT which is a dirty amp. I never played one but from what I gather from those on this forum and from videos is that the GT is a loud amp that has dirt from the moment it comes on. The regular Mazerati V1 and V2 are essentially like double power Ghias with slightly different tone circuits.

No. I'm familiar with the GT. I just figured to Mazerati was a little more raunch than clean. Maybe it's the v1 I'm thinking gives up the goods quicker than the v2

BTW - we ran the DB4 together with Mazerati and ZLux - cover the entire tonal spectrum - glorious!

I don't have a gold and blue to run it through.

I don't have a gold and blue to run it through. I would imagine it would stiffen it up a little (compared to the single gold or your DB4), similar to going between the Z-Wreck head/cab and combo. I would think it would sound great.
