So here's the thing, after playing around with my tone my ears get a little tired. Do you Ghia owners find yourselves turning the tone knob clockwise or counter clockwise when turning the volume up? In other words, is volume at 9 o'clock and tone at 12 equal to volume at 12 and say tone at around 10? Does the Ghia need more treble in tone when cranked to cut through the mix?

That tone knob is really responsive.. But I guess knowing the application would help? Are you talking about fiddling with it during a set or just trying to find your sweet spot that you can enhance/change with pedals?

The application would be with a band (set) and finding the sweet spot that cuts through the mix. I guess I was trying to get a consensus about Ghia users adjusting their tone knob as the volume goes up. To me it feels as if the volume and tone are related and affect each other...if that makes sense lol. Example; more volume dictates more or less treble...or visa versa

I think I've found that I run the tone lower at higher volumes, but you shouldn't get stuck in any of those mindsets with the Ghia. Set the volume, strike a full chord on the guitar, start with the tone knob off or low, as the the chord rings out on the guitar turn up the knob till it sounds right. It varies a little for different guitars and varies a lot with different speakers. Remember, the Ghia tone knob sweeps mid range, so a lot of things matter in that eq range. Try closing your eyes and setting it.

With a band/on a gig, I always play the Ghia WFO, tone at noon. I use the guitars volume and tone knobs to adjust from there (no pedals ever, just straight in). I primarily play P-90 equipped axes though, which work really well with a CG.
What kind of guitar/pickups are you using. Single coils would require a different setting than humbuckers, I would imagine.

meanslide, what's your preferred P-90? I've got Gibson 2010 / 2011 vintage P-90s in my LP Goldtop and Special, and those sound pretty dang good, but I hear that there's room for improvement.

Hey meanslide, for now I'm playing a Tele with a Lollar Royal T in the neck and a Fralin Blues Special in the bridge.
I have a Crook T style on order and it will have an APC neck with a voodoo 59 bridge. Hopefully the Crook will be my favorite!

Hard to improve on the Gibson one, they invented it. My Jr. has the original PU and I like it the best. I also have a 335 where I pulled out the HB's and put 'dog ear' 90's on it. A Fralin in the neck and a Lollar in the bridge. I bought a set from both guys and liked one of each. The opposite set are going on a Firebird V I have.

I know they sound great and would probably need that tone knob to go to the right a bit more than noon to tame some high end. Your speaker choice will also be a big factor with a Ghia. It responds really well to speaker swaps and that can totally change the way it feels and sounds. I've tried too many to remember but my fav's are the Tone Tubby Alnico for a 12" and the Doc's Red Fang for a 10".

I use a Jaguar (single coils) and use the amp with a 4x10 with a loud band/drummer. Volume at 11:30 Tone 12:30 - 1:15. Even When using it with a 1x8 speaker the tone know stays the same. The sweet spot for single coils is the one repeatedly recommended; from 11-1:30.
