Curious if anyone has tried a Z-Lux with a Gold and what you thought?
Could it coax some Vox "under-tones" out of it?
I know if I want "Vox" tones, there are several EL84 offerings.....But this amp intrigues me and I haven't had a good "Blackface" type of amp in a while and am considering one

Thinking it maybe too bright. Especially if used in a combo. I was the speaker swapping king, but with my Z-Lux I really think that stock speaker can't be beat. Want more British flavor? User one of the many great Marshall or Vox style pedals.

Telejas...I've recently seen your post about DB4 and I know your history with Zwreck. I too love "Voxy" bright amps and played a Zwreck for awhile. I recently picked up a Zlux head based on all the awesome reviews from the forum members. But, I was skeptical that I would like it. I'm "on the band wagon"!! It is a fantastic amp!! It can be quite bright when dialed in that way-beautiful low end too.
I don't have the Z 12 speaker, but love the tone I'm getting out of the 65w Creamback. I did not like it at all through the Celestion gold...very harsh!! I've played vintage Deluxe Reverbs and Boutiqe princetons. The Zlux has those "fendery" tones, with the ability to dial in something a lot brighter.

Mine's got the Doc's Z-12 speaker in it. I've tried several different speakers but none do it justice like Doc's. I tried the Creamback 65 which was excellent, the EVM12-L, WGS ET-65, Texas Heat, and a couple others. It's a great amp. I don't think you'd want an amp that could get any brighter, yet it chimes beautifully.

I run my z-lux with a gold in an old style dr z 1-12 cab. Sounds stellar. Not too bright for me and great bottom end as well. I do not hear the vox under tones. Also run it with a two ten set up with a z 10 and a celestion G12H30 and it sounds great that way. I have not tried it with the stock speaker that comes with the combo version, but am sure it sounds great that way. Great amp that is going to sound good with a wide variety of speakers.
