My Vox 846 HW wah stopped working yesterday. New battery, good cables. With the wah "off" I get sound. With the wah "on" I get zero sound. Just pure silence. I figure it is the switch or the pot.
Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot this?
Thanks
Paul G.

I'll bet it's the switch. The pot usually goes intermittent / crackles before going dead. Try spraying some Deoxit down the shaft of the switch button and if you can get any in it from the inside that would help. Spray and work it it a few times. Surprising how often everything works again.

Thank you sir. Yeah my switch crackled from day 2 or so of having this one. I did deoxit and it worked great till yesterday. Will try it again when I get home.

I could help if you are willing to take a look at the guts. First look for any obvious problem: broken wire, char on the circuit components.
Should be pretty easy to get an idea of the problem if you have a multimeter with a continuity setting (usually the resistance setting on the dial with a button push). This will make a "beep" when the probes are in contact electrically with each other. You say it passes signal in bypass, so we know the wires from the input/output jacks to the switch are good. Start with the switch. On the back of the switch are 6 posts. The two middle ones are from the input and output jacks. In bypass, the signal goes from input, through the short jumper wire on one side of the switch, and back to the middle "output" lug. If you probe this in bypass, those four lugs of the switch should be in continuity with each other. Now hit the switch. The signal should now go from the middle "input" lug to the other side of the switch, where it is sent to the circuit board. Make sure there is continuity between those two lugs. After the board, the signal comes back to the 6th lug on the switch and goes to the middle output lug. There should be continuity there too. If you check this you'll know whether its the switch or not.
From there we could start looking at voltages to see if the board is getting power.

Thanks for all the help and advice. I did the probing. Switch was dead. Put in the new switch and soldered it up. Just got done using it. Sounds awesome. The vox is a cool pedal. It is my back up wah.....my main is my 12 year old Teese Picture Wah. The Teese is a tank and has that vintage greasiness. The Vox is more of a cleanish funky sound. Thanks again for all the advice and assistance.
