Volume?

Every time I consider a Z it comes down to this....love the tone but can I control the volume?
I am about to buy a Ghia 1x10" combo for:
1) Grab n Go for basement/garage jams with friends (often with drums).
2) At home practice run through a Z 1x12 cab (No kids, tolerant wife but needs to be reasonable volume).
I have read and heard directly how loud a 1x12 and 2x12 Ghia can be. 2x12 sounded great. The 1x12 V30 cab took paint off the walls. I have never played a 1x10. As a reference, I am comfortable with my 1x12 Carr Rambler volume wise.
Here's my questions:
1) Is this the wrong amp? Square peg/round hole?
2) Would a greenback or such low efficiency speaker bring vol down enough?
3) Attenuator? 4) Low efficiency speaker AND attenuator required?
This is my fourth post recently (plus some PMs) regarding this purchase. Its tough to pull the trigger on a pricey amp when you can not try it beforehand. Thank you all for your help. This is a great community!

I think a 10" Greenback with antenuator should do the trick. If not, get on the waiting list for MV mod. I have one and love it! The 10 " Greenback is a much more dynamic speaker than the 12" version, it's tighter and doesn't get paper cone rattle when you crank it up. My 2 cents, Todd

The 10" greenback is a REAL quiet speaker. If you want to jam with friends...and one of those friends is a loud drummer, you'll have problems not being able to hear yourself. A normal or quiet drummer, you'll probably be alright...maybe.
Yes, a V30 @ 100db will be very loud. It's a loud speaker. I play a 10" gold, it's wonderful and it's 98db. (remember, a 3db difference is like cutting the amp wattage in half) The greenback is only 95db. That's incredibly inefficient. And it only has a 14 oz. magnet. (the V30 has a heavy 50 oz magnet)
Going from a 100db V30 (12 inch) to a 95db ten inch greenback...will be like night and day. Not to mention the V30 has a very distinct upper mid spike that cuts through everything.
My 2 cents is this: Get a speaker that's loud enough to handle a jam session and has a tone you like, but get a brakelite installed so you can jam at home at greatly reduced levels.
What kind of music do you play? I will say mine came with a 10" red fang and I didn't like it. (but a lot of people do) I put the Gold in it...and in literally 3 seconds of playing I knew it was the speaker for me.
BUY THE AMP!
You may go through a few speakers, searching for the one that's best for you (we all do it), but you WILL NOT be disappointed in the amp.
BUY THE AMP! It is a true guitar amp treasure. The tone, the dynamics, the harmonics, the overdrive, the cleans...it's all in there. I've been giggin' mine for about 5 years...about 150+ gigs....and it amazes me every time I turn it on. EVERY time I flip the switch and start playing I think "Man, this sounds SO good".
..buy the amp....seriously...just buy it.

BUY THE AMP!BUY THE AMP! ..buy the amp....seriously...just buy it. John.....I BOUGHT THE AMP! I ordered it through our local dealer, Emerald City Guitar in Seattle, so it's going to be 6-8 weeks for Z to put it together. It will be awhile but they are a great store of good people. Gotta support. That's right! Black with Salt and Pepper. Matches cab, guitar and the pup, Marshall. Thanks to all of you for helping me out. I think its going to be a great fit. O

It's a great choice. Has great overdrive on it's own but it takes pedals well too.

Ghia was my first love in the amp world. The first amp that made me feel like I had MY SOUND. I took a couple speaker swaps for me at first, but it was my first Z and I wasn't use to the clarity of Z amps. The Ghia is my favorite amp for rock and roll rhythm tones...Les Paul with P90's > PCNS Cable > Ghia = perfect.
Congrats. I'm sure it will be a special one.

It's likely "Everyone should own a Ghia" will become one of your new catchphrases. Enjoy!
