Hi All, As I posted in the lounge yesterday I got a chance to go to Cleveland yesterday and play around Mike's DB-4.
This time was different though, I did not play the guitar, I just turned knobs.
First off, 3rd time hearing the amp and I am still very impressed with this amp.
Started off with a custom built tele that Doc has in the shop plugged into the low input. The amp is much cleaner and quieter in the low input. There isn't as much growl and it certainly does not get a gainy. The amp had a much mellower tone.
When we switch over to the high input, oh boy!!
We ran the volume at about 3 (there are actually numbers on the dials) and then we took time at each tone possition (1 thru 5). Each tone possition starting at one get thicker and fatter. 1 has the brightest tone and 5 is darkest (dark really isn't the right word, how about less brightest). What you do to make this work is you play with the cut knob. If you want spank and bright you put the tone switch on 1 and then dial back the cut knob and it make some cool tele sounds. As you move the tone knob to 2 and then 3 and then 4 you hear the amp thicken up and get more bottom end. That is where the cut knob comes into to play, as the amp get darker you open up the cut knob and the tone stays thick and fat but then gives you some nice top end to balance it off.
We decided we liked tone possitoin 4 the best with the cut knob at 6.
Then the fun began . . . . we engaged the half power swith (making it half power) and then we cranked the volume up to 6 adn then even dimed the amp WOW. WOW, what a great deal of fun and that was with the tele. The shop Les Paul wasn't really playable (it needs some tech time to get it set up) so we didn't really play around much with it.
3rd time with the amp and I keep hearing more tones and discovering more features and how to use them.
get your orders in!!
Todd

^ Ha! Your job would absolutely not be a "job" at all; but MAN that daily commute would suck.

I suppose we could car pool, the ride there and back was pretty fun. Even though Steve kept napping . . . .

Looking forward to trying different speakers with this amp. Blue... Gold... Scumback (Creamback)... I'm guessing it'll excel with all of 'em.

Just watched the Dave Baker demo again. It looks like the rotary tone selector/cut control interaction, is going to allow the player to tailor the amp to fit any guitar or style of music. Right now, Mark's avatar above says it all. strut...

Hmmmm... I wonder how it would sound stereo with my Z-Lux.
This may be another keeper.
