In regard to Carmen Ghia head cabinets (and really all Dr. Z head cabinets for that matter)
On the back panel I've seen the 3/4" x 2" tolexed strip, I've seen the oval cut out with mesh behind it, and I've seen some with just the mesh. Are these all different variations from the factory over time?

Yeah, I think so. My pre-2000's Ghia had a parttial metal-mesh screen. Later ones had the single tolex-covered wood bar. Newer ones have the full-frame oval cut-out (with smaller-holed mesh too, I believe).
Believe it or not, my old Ghia's front valence is actually velcro'ed on, not screwed! I believe it was done that way to access some of the tubes, as it would be otherwise impossible to reach them without removing the chassis altogether.
Likely just Doc deciding to do things "a little better" over time...

I have one of each. Z-28 wood strip. Route 66 mesh. Z-Verb oval with mesh. The newer amps even come with silk screened back plates!

Yeah, I just picked up a used one as a back up to my CG 1x12 combo. It's a 7/13 production date, I figured it'd have the oval w/mesh.

My 2013 Z-28 has the wood bar, but my 2013 Z-Verb has the oval. I tried to buy an oval one from Dr Z Repairs but was told they couldn't help me. Does anyone know a source for these?
