So, I'm a new MAZ owner (actually haven't received the amp yet, but as you can imagine I'm "prepping" for the occasion!!)..
Anyways, I've been reading lots of threads on speaker choice (I've got a NR head coming). I see some people are big fans of the Blue with your MAZ Jr. I bought an used Blue a while back and I'm excited to give it a try with the MAZ.
However, I was playing the Blue last night through my blackface Princeton Reverb, volume on about 4, and hitting it with a few pedals (Archer, RC Booster, and EGO compressor). When I really dig in the speaker is definitely distorting, creating a bit of papery sounding fuzzy distortion. To my ears, it's not very pleasant. I do like the sound of the speaker before it reaches this point however...
So, this got me thinking... how are you guys running a MAZ jr. into this 15 watt speaker? I didn't think I was pushing the speaker that hard with my PR and it was breaking up. I was probably at a decent rehearsal volume with a mild hitting drummer. Are you guys just running your MAZ pretty quiet? I'm expecting the MAZ to have more power/volume vs. an old PR, so I'm not sure how that speaker would be capable of handling the MAZ?
My other concern, is that perhaps my old Blue has seen better days, and needs a new voice coil/re-cone....
So, I first thought I would get some input from you all..... how quickly does your Blue breakup with the MAZ? Do you like the speaker distortion? These answers might lead me to either accept the Blue for what it is, or perhaps look into a re-cone..
Thanks!

I have a C-Gold in my MAZ Jr. I like the sound of the Blue but since it is rated at 15 watts I opted for the 50 watt Gold since I occasionally get to crank my MAZ and the Gold sounds very similar to a Blue. Lots of people like the Blue in that amp but I doubt they are really turning it up.

Thanks for the reply...
I have since found the distortion/noise I'm hearing is in my amp, not my speaker! LOL!
However, I have decided the Blue might not be enough for the MAZ Jr. so I've ordered a Celestion Cream, which I heard was closer to the sound of a Blue. I also heard that about the Gold too, as you indicated. I own a 10" Gold already, but want a 12, so I'll give the Cream a try. Nice to have options....

I ran a Blue with my Maz 18 head for a couple of years, no problem. With a Strat it's a pretty great rig. I think if you weren't running it completely cranked for extended periods you'd be fine; I usually had the opposite problem--how to make it quiet enough for the rooms I was playing. The Blue is a great speaker with the right amp/guitar combination.

Probably a good choice-I absolutely LOVE the C-Blue, but I'm not turning it up loud. It's super-sweet sounding, but when I turn it WAAAAY up, the Blue sounds a little flubby. Not distorted, but the low-end thumps. I've read nothing but good about the C-Cream.

Rated @ 90 Watts, It has all of the qualities of the blue but with a awesome, tight , bottom end. I put one in my Maz 18 & never looked back. It's the perfect speaker for the Maz (imho).
