Hello everyone! Wow, the DB4 really has my attention! I love the sound of the Brad Paisley demo and the price is right!
So, the 1x12 combo caught my eye, because I don't have a single cab with a blue or gold in it. However, I'm wondering if there is cause for concern about microphonics. The 5879 is said to be more rugged than an EF86. Do any of you Stang Ray, Z28, M12, etc. combo players experience issues?

Brad I guess I will handle this one. Yes the 5879 is 10X more rugged then a EF 86. I haven't had the combo's out that long so with small amount of data I have , there is no problem with the 5879 being microphonic. BP has had his DB 4 heads ( 4 of them ) in use and on the road for a year, with 0 issues. The combo's do offer a tougher environment for a high gain pentode pre-amp tube, but the NOS American built 5879's seem to up to the task so far.

Z Thanks for the reply, Doc! That's reassuring to hear about Brad's amps. I appreciate it. If I'm being totally honest, I usually go for a head and cab configuration, but I'm not really a fan of the front panel on the head. I know it is such a petty thing, and I only bring it up, because I'm wondering if their will be an option for the 'classic' front panel.

The DB is the same size as all of the other larger style heads. I'm assuming the front panel would be swap-able, however, knowing the good Doc, there's probably a solid reason there's a mesh grill on the front of this amp...

I was disappointed to read your remarks about the new head front. My purpose was two fold. One to give the DB 4 head a new look, freshen up the old standard head cab. And two add ventilation for improved operation and reliability. It is the same cab so it you want the old style Tolexed valance I could do that for you . Just have your dealer state in the memo section of the order site. Z

I wasn't too keen on the new look at first, either.. but I dig the "variety," if you will, of a different look now and then.
What I think is nice, too, is that we're seeing some new variations on colors--like the black piping with not only black vinyl ("blackout"), but also on the red & blonde ones, too. In fact, I happen to have turned the corner and am totally infatuated with the blonde tolex/black piping/Z-wreck cloth combination that Steve Miller (StangRay & M12) & Walter Becker (DB4) have gotten recently. Really cool modern interpretation of the classic Z-look.

Thanks for letting me know about the option to order the old valence from my dealer. I don't want to seem like I'm back-peddling, but the new front panel does grow on me just a little bit more each day. I'm sure I will end-up ordering the new style in the end. Haha.

I really dig the front. Actually when those came out as the "new" back design I thought it would make a cool front. Glad to see that happen, it is a fresh look. Nothing wrong with the classic looks but I do think it is cool.

Hmm.....that 1x12 combo in the red and black looks pretty darn sexy to my eyes! First Z to make me consider a redhead over my usual blondes!!

I went with the Navy Blue 2x12 - I like blue amps. I presently have a blue Marshall Vintage Modern amp. Would love to get a Blue Z-Wreck as well! Just something cool about blue!
