New DB4 demo is up. Killer playing plus A/B comparison with a Z-Wreck.

Pretty sweet to hear Dancing Days through a Z! Sounded right-on.
Some of the tones sounded maybe a little EL84-ish (mostly the Strat) but yeah it definitely seemed more dark and "bark-y" and anyone might think it had big-bottle tubes in there. Not much EL84 "chime" to speak of.

The user interface (if that's even the correct term?) seems like it encourages creativity. The rotary selector is so unusual and cool. Seems like it's an amp you can just sit back and play instead of tweak. The aesthetics are incredible too!

Don't beat me up but, underwellmed I am kinda with you. It sounds good, but definitely not for me. Still curious if it has any clean tones in it. I sure wouldn't mind having the Wreck though.

Excellent demo, Thanks Dave! Beautiful amp, and in red like that - it's enough to make you weak in the knees. It's nice to hear how it compares to the Wreck too.

Geez, i'd hate to be an amp and have to go head to head with the Z Wreck. That said, sounds good.

That is one KILLER amp!! There is no way I would ever guess that was an EL84 amp! No way! Such a ballsy, beefy tone - super cool!! I notice it inspires Dave to play the Stones, ACDC and Joe Walsh...........right up my street!! This could be my "Therapy Combo"

Judging by the demos I've seen, it doesn't really do clean, huh? Nice amp but to be honest, the Wreck sounds way more interesting to my ears in this. On a side note, I love how the Doc's amps react to guitars. The guitars make more of a difference in this demo than the amp sometimes does and that's a great thing for someone who loves how his guitars sound.

On a side note, I love how the Doc's amps react to guitars. The guitars make more of a difference in this demo than the amp sometimes does and that's a great thing for someone who loves how his guitars sound. Well judging by these demoes the Wreck doesn't do clean either........... and we know that isn't true. I guess the tone of this amp lends itself to a rockin' crunch which I for one LOVE, but appreciate it's not everyone's cup of tea .................. Dave Baker certainly seems to like it I'm more interested in the overall volume............ does it need a BrakeLite to make it manageable for small club gigs (I know that the Half Switch will help, but not sure by how much). You point about the Doc's amps reacting to guitars is absolutely on the money - one of the first (pleasant) shocks I had when I bought my first Z many years ago. It is amazing how Z amps "talk" to each guitar uniquely, and make them sound "more" themselves than most amps out there, certainly any mass produced amps I've ever played! Just magical

Yeah... I know where I stand on the whole "tonewood" debate when I play my two PRSi with the same pickups, one mahogany/maple + rosewood fingerboard, one swamp ash + maple neck and fingerboard, through my MAZ. If only the electronic parts and tuners and bridges mattered, they should sound a *lot* closer.

I'm thoroughly impressed! The DB4 really rocks! I like how kind of dark and beefy it sounds compared to the wreck in the vid. Both amps totally ROCK! The unconventional rotary switch is right up my alley too!

I like it. It's harmonically really different from the Wreck, for sure--doesn't do twang in quite same way--but I don't really care about twang. It sounds pretty punchy and has a nice throaty breakup--nails Keef straight in, too, which is saying something. To my ear it resembles the Friedman Pink Taco quite a bit, tonally, although the PT is a MV amp with a more conventional tone stack. If I was in the market for a Z at this point I'd definitely consider it.

I wish he would have gone through the different rotary settings...with everything else being the same. Same guitar (and same guitar volume) same volume and cut settings on the amp..etc. Do this with a LP then tele/strat. There's too much jumping around. It doesn't show off what the rotary dial does. With the amp's volume @ noon, it seems this amp breaks up pretty quick. Rotary dial...as in Ghia style rotary dial?
And I wish these demo videos would have the player adjust the guitar volume. Tell us when the guitar is on 10. Tell us when it's on 4. And roll it up and down so we can hear the difference.
But the contrast with the Z-wreck is a great idea.
Having someone as good as Dave Baker demo an amp is also a double edged sword. Some people of limited playing ability may see him burn off some fast/impressive riffs/licks, and a tiny portion of the back of their brain will think "If I get this amp, I'll be one step closer to sounding/playing like that." And that can sell some amps. On the other hand, when you KNOW he's that good, there can be a part of a listener who's waiting for him to burn off those impressive licks....and may not be paying attention to the tone. But I think Dave does a good job of slowing down and playing some simple rhythms that show off the amp, and not his abilities. Just imagine if Malmsteen demo'd an amp. You pretty much know what he's going to do.

The rock crunch is cool for sure but unfortunately, I require some cleans. Looks like I'm holding off on this one.

The rock crunch is cool for sure but unfortunately, I require some cleans. Looks like I'm holding off on this one. Glad you appreciate the amps strengths Jesse. It so funny, I build an amp with wonderful clean tone (i.e., StangRay ) and I sold 5 of them in 2015. Players ask for more gain and natural distortion. I build an amp with EXCELLENT natural drive and Rockin' Vintage tone, and I hear it needs more cleans. Not dissing you Jesse, that is why there is Chocolate, Pistachio, and Vanilla different taste and different tools for the job at hand. I will say this the DB 4 has great cleans by just rolling your guitar volume back, it has the most dynamic front-end of any amp I have designed to date. I wish Dave could have demo'd that , but I allow my demo artists freedom with only a little input from me. I did ask for a Z Wreck / DB 4 comparison which he did. Also this is a compact light weight 1X12 combo, which sounds HUGE in the room, this doesn't translate very well to a recorded compressed You Tube video. Trust me you will be amazed once you plug into one. Z
