Hey guys,
I recently bought a Paul C. Timmy and I'm really enjoying it. I particularly enjoy it when it's used for low to medium gain. The Timmy, however, is the only dirt pedal on my board at the moment. I'm having a hard time figuring out which direction I should go for my next dirt pedal. I want to make sure I get something that stacks well with the Timmy, but something that can also do the medium to heavier gain sounds on its own. Just want to make sure I have my gain stages covered.
I'm intrigued by the following pedals:
Fulltone OCD Barber Direct Drive Compact Xotic BB Preamp Barber Gain Changer Wampler Plexi drive Wampler Euphoria
I play a 52 tele with a lollar special t set through a 1x10 Z-28 with RF. I play sundays at my church (not really doing anything heavy), but I want to have the flexibility of a second gain stage for solos and a crunchy power chords. Thanks in advance.

I have a Barber Small Fry after my Timmy. The two work nicely together. I think I remember reading the Gain Changer is part Small Fry (or something like that).

The BB would go well w the Timmy and has a lot of gain on tap if needed. You can also shape it a bit more than you can the OCD with the EQ. The RF is an efficient speaker and leaves very little of your amp's output behind when played. The BB will get you into more gain while maintaining a lower volume level w the amp itself. The '28 and RF together are very mid heavy so keep that in mind when you're auditioning ODs.

The mid bump is just too harsh to my ears. From what I understand, the ocd is flatter on the mids but I just wasn't sure how these other pedals are in that dept. thanks for the input! Is the bb tamed on the mids. I'm overall pretty impressed with xotic just based on the quality and musicality of my sp compressor

I haven't used the BB w the Z-28 but it's not a mid humpy pedal. It sounds good w my SP comp and for more gain I add either the SL or EP on top.

If you've not seen it, these guys do a nice job explaining factors to consider when stacking gain pedals.

I really liked a Keeley modded 808. I used a Z-28 with a Tim and 808 for over a year as my main rig.

I run my Animal after my Tim and it seems to work well.

Just as an update. I took my Z-28 to guitar center the other day to try a few pedals. I tried the JROCKET Blue Note, BB Preamp, OCD, and a wampler sovereign. I walked out of guitar center with the Fulltone OCD. Very versatile...i can go from a nice light overdriven tone, to much heavier sounds. I have the fulltone set in LP mode with the volume at around 9/9:30, tone at 2, and drive at 12. The OCD by itself sounds great with these settings for a nice medium driven sound. I put it after my timmy, and when both are engaged, i get a nice boosted lead sound. I have three different gain stages to work with and all very usable. Very happy with the purchase. I'll be playing it live in the next 2 weeks. I'll let you know how that goes.

I thought about getting one for those gigs where I only want to bring the Maz with me...

Klon clone of some sort? I have tried a few (never the original) and liked the Pedal Monster Klone the best. I am surprised I don't see more talk of klones here as they seem to fit the Z amps so well for me, and they stack well with other pedals.

There used to be a lot of talk about them here but it has kind of died out. It seems the favored one here is the Rock-Your-Repaired-Amp version.

I'm currently using it as the last pedal in line, even after delay, to provide a volume lift when desired. I've also used it early in the chain to push another pedal. Works great for that also.
