After fooling around with various pedals and stuff I decided to just run directly into the Stang. I was afraid it would be too loud just by itself so I was using some nice pedals (Keely's, OCD, Hot Cake, etc.) to get the crunch that I needed for my Classic Rock, country gigs. I discovered after the volume knob gets past around 9 O'clock the Stang just gets fatter sounding with just the right amount of crunch needed. My love of this amp just grows and grows.

Well yeah! I like to run my volume at about 1 o'clock - lots of crunch up there, and a great sound.

In my experineces with tube amps over the years, turning the amps up ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS sounds better than pedals. I have several ODs, and have been thru probably 30, but nothing beats turning the amp up (then attenuating, if neccesary).
Pedals serve a cool purpose for gigging of course, when you can't have "an amp for every sound", but Brad Paisley's setup- very few drive pedals, switching to a gainier amp for more gain when needed- is the ultimate. Most of us can't afford that many amps...

My favorite position is right around 4 (or 10:00). Just a hint of grit with single coils, but still clean.

I depends on the pickups and the input you use.
I can change the breakup point on my amp by almost a 120º by varying guitar, input, clean boost, etc.
Then there's the speaker variable..
The Blues seem to break up before the rest of the amp. Once they're both cooking though, GREATNESS IS YOURS!

I just got my 2 x12 open back bottom with blues and I was immediately struck with a great sound out of that cabinet. It was worth the wait, especially since they were bought as a package but the head arrived over a month before the cab. I now see that my serial number is an S so I better email a copy of my receipt and get my badge to go with this great amp.

You think it sounds good now, wait until the speakers have a couple of months of use on them... they really start shining then

My Stangray head came in three weeks ago and I'm still waiting for my 2X12 open back. From what I hear its another 2 weeks away. I'll be forced to gig with my stangray head connected to my Z best cab this weekend. My Stangray has the "S" in the serial number. What is the significance of that?

S just means it was produced in 2008 (I think).
Doc's serial numbers have a letter corresponsing to year, going back to?? 1989 or something?

The important thing to note about an 08 build date is that you can email Brent in Sales with your serial # and he can get you a way cool aniversary badge for your amp!
