We all know this amp sounds AMAZING with a Tele. I did a gig Saturday night with my '56 Custom Shop Strat. In this band I play a mix of Bluez, Classic Rock and Country leads. I have modded the guitar to incorporate the same boost circuit as the the Eric Clapton model. My stage position was right next to a neon Bud sign that was also my only source of good lighting so I couldn't turn it off. Naturally I got a bit of the 60Hz hum thing going so I unplugged my pedal board and went directly into the amp just to see if I could reduce the hum a bit. I was totally blown away by the sound. For the first time I could actually hear the tonality change as I moved the volume, tbx, and boost controls. I did the entire gig sans pedals. The settings on the amp were: Volume not quite on 2, Tone about 2 o'clock, Cut just a bit from fully CCW. I used the #2 input for a while but as the band did it's normal volume creep I moved to the #1 input. I'm not quite ready to sell my pedal collection, but I won't be using it at the next gig. Yes, Virginia, this amp works well with more than just a Tele.

AGREED! When I got my Stingray, it was to supply cleans against my Flexi-50's dirt. But the Stingray surprised me big time - it holds its own in the blues environment with a strat. I agree you can get away with just this amp, and no apologies required.

I agree as well..... My band recorded a "Live CD" a few weeks ago and we get to cheat and go back in and fix any "big" mistakes (like wrong notes - thank god!!). I have the fortune of having a computer set up that lets me record at home (can't really call it a studio, but all the same equipment). I mainly played clean for the recording, but have a pedal board that I run through live...... When I went back to fix my parts I just plugged straight in to the Ray and started playing along and even on the recording you could tell a difference in tone, so I had to go back and spend another 2 hours fixing the fixes and making my tone match the recording Which was really good but just not as *pure*. Guitar > cable > StangRay is a great set up!! benttop, PM on the way... got a ? fer ya.

By the way, I'm using the 1x12 combo with the gold Celestion I'm using a Gold with mine too. I have a 2x12 with Alnico Blues, but I run two heads, so I have a THD 2x12 wired stereo and I run the Stingray into one of the Golds, and the other head into the second Gold. The Golds sound great for the Stingray!
