Got a question for the tech-heads in the forum -
I sold my stangray to a very good guy who received it safely, thank goodness.
He wants to replace the recitifer from the current 5v4 back to the stock GZ34. Is there any biasing necessary or anything else I should inform him of?
Also can you think of any tonal differences the swap will result in.
Thanks very much guys!
Brandon

The 'ray is cathode biased, so no adjustment is required when you change any of the tubes, including the rectifier. I would think the GZ34 would make the amp a bit louder and not as squishy as the 5V4.

Hi Brandon and Steve, As it turns out,the rectifier tube was one of the miss labled ones that mike sells, good on him for telling me it could be power tube issues, new set of JJs and she woke rite up. Thanks guys.

Wow it is amazing how sensetive EL84's are. I had done maybe 4 gigs with those tubes - I suppose the bouncing during shipping could have made a difference too...but wow. Glad you got it cleared up.
