This amp has really exceeded my expectations. It has such a sweet tone and the way the bass works
with it you get some real fat tone at any volume level. I can understand why Joe Walsh said its the best amp he owns.

Randy, I agree with you and Joe!! It is by far the best amp I own. I was looking for a nice grab-n-go combo and had considered a Fender Deluxe or the Vibrolux, but neither one gave me that "this is THE amp" feeling. My band mate (fellow Z-Talk member TeeDawg) has been a Dr. Z user for almost 10 years now...he sent me an email about the Z-lux a few months ago. The more I looked at it the more I got the "this is THE amp" feeling. All the features were there! I thought to myself, if this amp sounds even half as good as the Dr. Z amps (plural) that he uses, then this is truly "THE amp". When the amp arrived, I unboxed it; the first thing I noticed was the weight; it was solid but not heavy at all; the red tolex was a break from my standard black amps and cabinets (with some encouragement from TeeDawg, I figured you only live once, get the red!!) The Z-Wreck cloth is very classy and the build is the typical quality that I have seen in all other Dr. Z amps. I plugged it in, turned it on, grabbed my strat/tele hybrid (that I built) and plugged it up. The volume was at 9:00 and all other EQ settings were at 12:00. The first few chords were a very nice clean sound with a very open-air sounding reverb, the tone and clarity was pretty amazing. This was what I was looking for in the Deluxe Reverb but could never quite get it. I pushed the volume up to 12:00 and a sweet break-up tone came out of this tone monster...I looked like the Grinch grinning!! VERY responsive amp!! This was all at the 20w setting...flipping to 40w produced more head room. At 20w, the bass response is great...flipping to 40w produced a really rich (non-flubby)fat bottom end that swung around and slapped me up-side my head...WOW!! So after about an hour of noodling around with the pickups and different songs, I connected the foot switches. This one came with the boost switch that has the potentiometer to vary the boost. You can get a nice controlled boost with this pedal. The reverb was on, so I then clicked the tremolo, CCR "Born on the Bayou" to a T...sweet tremolo. I was never a tremolo user until now...it's That good! I haven't put any pedals in front of it yet, but I can see where this will be another day of exploration!! This turned out to be "THE amp"...it sure is a fine combo...no knock on the Deluxe but this is everything the Deluxe is and a whole lot more. The band I play in (with TeeDawg) covers Southern rock, country, blues...and I can see where this will have no trouble with any of those genres. Impressed is an understatement!!

Jaydubu I was also looking for a smaller grab and go combo tried the vibrolux and the deluxe and neither one did it for me. Once you start playing hand wired amps it's hard to go back to those other type of amps. I hear you your review was great. I know how you feel I bought this amp off of all the hype . All I can say is the proof is in the pudding. The Z-Lux was the best amp purchase I made in years. I cannot wait to gig with it! The sound is huge 3D tone! For such a lightweight amp it puts out a big sound. Enjoy my brother..

Just to let erryone know..............He has been looking like a MULE EATING BRIARS since he turned that thang on and strummed that first chord. The Z-Lux has a tendency to do that to people on both sides of the guitar.
