The Ghia continues to be one of my all time fav amp. How can it not be? Back in the late 90's some country picker was on his radio tour and even the secretaries at ASCAP or BMI (can't remember) were feeling bad for some handsome newcomer named Paisley? "Oh, it's horrible. He's booked for 300 + dates this year and doesn't have a life to speak of"......uhm lady, ....he's signed, and getting paid.....But, what's his name?
Anyways that jerk has cost me a few coin, and turned me on to some excellent gear. The Ghia being my first from True Tone Music in Santa Monica. (Yes, we love country in California). So...the cab I suggest and speaker of choice is something you NEVER hear people suggest
Cab: vintage original Two Rock oval ported 1x12
Speaker: EV Classic
The oval ported Two Rock Cabs sound best with an EV Classic. They are cleeeean and punchy in the bass. Since the Ghia begs to break up, I don't need a more forgiving speaker that gets slapped around even more by its mother. Makes sense? It handles everything and is an honest rendition of what your playing. But what I love the most about it is the incredible honest tone it delivers from the Ghia. I Don't want anything coloring this gooey, saggy amazing thick tube goodness. It's still breaks where it's supposed to....from the amp
The Two Rock signature cabs with all respect are something you have to discover on your own. They were discontinued be cuz they were too expensive to make a profit on. The newer sign cabs, are blah. The originals are over engineered to deliver a very full low end, and sound twice their size. I'm not just saying that. They do. I use an Auralex dampener so the floor doesn't give me even more bass and keep the cab a good 12-18" from the wall if needed.
So so there you have it. So many good options....speakers, cabs....this is my go too. I've A/B'd more than you can count.
If you can't get hold of the EV Classic, go with the ASW KTS70. Save you, a few lbs....and another amazing transparent and supportive ally for the incredible Carmen Ghia
