Ghias sound better with the Electro Harmonix El84 power tubes. Forget the jjs, mullards(suck) very harsh, sovteks and svetlanas dont have personality...

I think the JJs sound nice but they go beyond creamy and thus the amp was always cranked. But that would be my second choice. I also tried mullards, very Harsh sounding and died fast, the sovteks and svet;lana in my opinion didnt have any tonal personalty. They did the job right and lasted a lot but I kept looking for Tone. The tone knob sweetspot in my Annie with single coils is from 11:15 - around 1:30. This is my second pair of EH and both have had a solid balance between headroom and warmness. They get the British flavor in tune but keep an airy openness that make the Ghia distinct. I know preamp tubes affect but in my opinion, in this amplifier the difference in tone when changing Power Tubes is very noticeable. But my friend. This is just my opinion. I use a Fender Jaguar and a Stratocaster with a 4x10 z cab with eminence ramrods or a 1x8 alnico weber.

Thanks for the great review. I always like to hear what others are hearing from their gear. I have mostly used JJs for EL84s. I should see how the EH tubes do in my amps at some point. Never hurts to try. Thanks again for the great review.

I've been using TAD-STRs for a while now in my CG25th with a tele. Seems to tame the high end a bit for me. Very dynamic, plenty of headroom.
