Hi gang I'm thinking of adding z-lux head to my collection. (Z28, EZG50 & Therapy) Does the head feature the fan or is it only a found on the combo?

Unless things have changed, I think it's only the combo.

I would think if this amp needed a fan, the head cab would need it even more than the combo due to smaller space and less ventilation.
Maybe someone with a head will chime in..... Or the ultimate authority, DRZ himself.

When Doc designed the Remedy, which is "head only" from the shop, he didn't think a fan was needed. Putting the same design power section into the JAZ combo, he chose to add a fan. In the combo, the tubes hang down; in the Remedy head, they point up. The Z-Lux head, however, is the same "tubes down" arrangement as the combo. I guess he felt the head still had an adequate margin of safety for ventilation. Of course, I'm assuming the stock pic of the head, with no fan, is the same as what's being shipped.
Added: I take MarkT's point. Best to hear from Z himself.

Tubes up is easier on the tubes because the heat rises up and away from the chassis, it's not trapped like a tube down design.
Tubes up also leads to longer tube life.
Tubes down is what you need if you are going to make a combo so sometimes a fan is needed to keep things cooler.

When I converted a JAZ combo to a head I also mounted the fan. Let me tell you, it was a real bear. I just thought that if the combo needed it, the head certainly would. It wasn't until afterward that I found that the head didn't have one. I will fit but you have to be creative.

Just for what it's worth the fan in the combo is very quiet.

Guess that settles it as Dave has a production amp. (Guessing the stock shot on the Z site was pre-production model.)

Lol......glad I didn't blindly order one like I was going to do last year! I just assumed it didn't have a fan based on the website! I won't buy any amp that has or needs a fan....but that's just me !

That is interesting. The fan in my JAZ combo was mounted to blow the air up where it diffused around the transformer and then onto the tubes so that is how I remounted it in the head. I see where in the Z-Lux head it draws air through the front grill and blows it horizontally across the tubes. It looks to me that airflow is blocked to at least one tube, maybe two. I like the JAZ arrangement much better as it is more evenly distributed.
