Hello, I'm the proud owner of a preowned but like new Carmen ghia 2x10 combo with brakelite installed in cab. I've tried to research the brakelite, speakers and impedence. It's got 2 10" Dr.Z speakers at 16ohms each (from what I've read, wired parallel) to equal an 8 ohm load? When I purchased the amp, the brakelite was plugged into the 4 ohm jack. Shouldn't it be to the 8 ohm jack (wired parallel= 8ohm / wired in series= 32ohm load?) is this correct? If this is correct, another 8 ohm cab could be ran (via quality parallel Y cable) to cut load to 4 ohms, then the brakelite should be plugged into the 4 ohm jack? Or am I wrong about all of this??? Thanks in advance for assistance! Im new to the forum, so please let me know if this is better suited for the "troubleshooting" forum.

You've got it all correct. Welcome to the forum. Just to add something in case you don't know, never use more than one of the taps with a Z.

Thank you! So it's the same as all the vintage fenders I've owned. No matter what I wire in speaker wise, one jack that matches the load only. What confused me was the brakelite being plugged into the wrong jack. I've never used attenuation, so I wanted to make sure it didn't change anything. I know the blackface fenders (some of them) had the "external speaker" jack and I never understood that because they didn't have multiple taps on the OT's. So when u did use an external speaker, it dropped the load stressing the OT. I bet the Carmen ghia sounds really good plugged into the correct jack. 8 ohm load plugged into 4 ohm tap would cut a little bit of efficiency if it works the same as a vintage fender head I would think? I've gigged a vintage bassman (4ohm tap) through an 8 ohm cab to cut the volume about 30% to make it a little quieter. I'm assuming that would do the same running the ghia (8 ohm into the 4 ohm jack? Thanks again

That may have been what the previous owner was doing too...although why do that if you have a BL

I was actually able to talk to the old owner. He wasn't sure which input to plug into. I haven't picked the amp up yet. So I'm anxious to play it set up correctly. What is the difference between the 5751 and the 12ax7 preamp tubes? Last question I promise

Welcome drewkimbo! For the tube differences, here's a good run down of preamp glass... KCANOS Preamp Tube GuideThe short answer is the 5751 has about 70% of the gain of a 12AX7. You can use it in V1 for a little more headroom in the Ghia.

Welcome aboard and congrats on the Ghia.
5751 used to be "standard issue" on the Ghia for V2, as I recall. It's likely the lack of reliable new tubes tipped Doc to go with the 12ax7 in that position. I've also read that it was a Nashville thing to swap V1 and V2, putting the 5751 first in line.

So it's the same as anything else. 5751 and 12ax7 (or V1 and V2) are interchangeable. And both v1 and v2 can run a 12ax7s (which would be more gain than the recommended 5751)?
