I currently have a Maz 18 and Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I'm playing mostly country, rockabilly in a band with 2 guitars, bass, drums. We play with a pretty clean sound. We get together weekly and play out once a month - summer festivals, small bars. Can those of you who play the Z-Luxe in a band setting give me your thoughts? We generally run everything through the PA.
1. Will the Z-Luxe cut through the mix well? (The Maz and Fender do fine - I'm on a tele, other guitar player covers the fat ES-339 sound) 2. Will it be significantly different than what I have? (The Fender gets used most now). 3. Will it replace what I have? (So I feel better about the cost) 4. Any other advice, comparisons, contrasts will be greatly appreciated.
As you can tell, I'm battling the GAS as I know I can get the job done with what I have. Outside of the band, I'm working on some Western Swing, some Jazz, and Robben Ford. So I can take that into account as well.
Thanks for your comments.

Yes. But keep the Maz for your EL84 jones.

Z-Lux will cover anything the HRD covers and probably has a broader palette of tones. (I've played through HRDs but never owned one or had time to run it through its paces.)
MAZ is a special amp, so I second Greg's comment. That said, I gig with the Z-Lux. If you want to keep it clean, turn V way low and crank the Master. Then bring V up to suit and, if needed, back off Master. EQ to taste of course.

Thank you for your thoughts. My local shop has one coming in a couple weeks. Sounds like I'll have to give it a serious look.

I just sold my HRD and have a z-lux head. The HRD was the amp I would take to dusty rodeo gigs where I did not want to take my Z amps. Yes I am anal about my amps. The HRD is a fine amp IMO and covers a lot of ground.
The Z-lux would cover some of the ground of the HRD, but it offers so much more. You have to hear one for yourself to judge, but it blows me away every time I turn it on. It has plenty of power if needed and you can dial it down to half power if needed. Also has tremelo that is awesome and a boost switch that is footswitchable. It is quite a package and I feel I could cover just about any gig with it. Takes pedals very well also. IMO you cannot go wrong with the z-lux.
Sounds different than my maz 38 which is my go to amp. The maz to me is a little more mid focused and chimey to me. The maz really cuts through the mix well. I have not gigged with the z-lux yet, but would imagine it would cut through the mix just fine.
I am in a position to keep my maz and the lux, and I am glad to have both. The lux to me is just a little more versatile with the trem and boost function and the half power switch.

I have not gigged with the z-lux yet, but would imagine it would cut through the mix just fine. After the last gig our drummer said "I see why you like that amp and guitar (Collings 290) so much: You really cut through on solos. I could hear you really well." (Drummer has sometimes said it's hard to hear me. Of course, we have a loud drummer )
