I thought it was pretty darn good. And, of course, it left the back door open for the next episode.... 4.5 Jalapenos!

Most of my family loved it. I gotta say I expected more creativity, and was disappointed Lee. Plenty of action though .

I liked it better than most of the other follow ups, but to me the very first Star Wars back in '77 was the best. I came out of that theater completely blown away, and I can't say that for any of the other sequels. Maybe I'm just an inflexible old fart...

Saw it with the fam out in SoCal. Liked it a lot. Very cool that the girl--finally--was the hero, did not require saving by men, and did not wear a gold bikini. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Fantastic!!!! Went with all the family today (7 of us). Loved it. Even our 5 year old granddaughter came along, and insisted on wearing her 'Chewy' hat (looks a bit like an owl hat ). We thought she might find the movie a bit scary, but she was absolutely fine. She was making Chewy and BB8 noises all the way home. 5 stars from us.

Funny, @poodle- I feel the same way. Wife & I saw it this afternoon, and....kinda meh. I mean seriously, the plot is pretty much identical to a bunch of the other ones. And, another Death Star? Really?!?!?! I felt like I had seen that movie before, with other characters in it. Oh, wait, I did! (No, won't stop me from seeing more)
I dunno, getting older makes me a bit cynical. I rewatched the original (ep. 4) the other night for the first time in a long time, and was struck by how cheesy it was.

Thought it was great and entertaining. No JarJar Binks was a bonus!

Alright, maybe it was just me but i give it a 3-letter review: M-E-H! I totally understand that, Ian.....
I guess I went into it differently than most. I didn't expect the moon (pun intended). I went in looking forward to a little light-hearted nostalgia mixed with a dash of space battle, some goofy humor, and getting a nudge in the curious monkey direction of always wondering about the obscure "whose father did what," and "who's yer real daddy new girl?"......
From the trailers, I knew I'd see Ford 'n Chewy again and hoped Carrie etal would make appearances just out of curiosity.... Also, I took my youngest kids (18 &22), who came into the whole SW thing much "after the fact." So it was also a family thang.
I enjoyed it for nothing more than that. No, my socks weren't knocked off either, but I wasn't looking for a serious plot, nor intense, over the top cinemagraphics. I guess it comes down to your expectations for the movie. Mine weren't that high.....I was just looking for a light-hearted good time with the kids, and I feel I got that....

Yeah--depends on your expectations. I've only seen maybe four of the Star Wars movies--not that interested beyond the cheesy fun factor, which I think this one delivered pretty well. They're basically space westerns--good guys, bad guys, yeeha, pewpewpew, maybe a little romance in between gunfights. Total cornball, in other words--movies for kids. But it was fun to see Harrison Ford mugging his way around the set, and the girl was cool, as I said above, and the action scenes were action-y, if you like that kind of thing.

^^^i agree about the female heroine. Nice to see. as for the "mugging" for the camera, it felt that way with all the old characters... like they were winking at the camera while delivering their lines, letting us all in on the inside joke. I guess i wasn't wanting a nostalgia trip. i was hoping for something new and groundbreaking... shame on me! lol oh, yeah... my preference was to see it in non-3D but the show was sold out so we saw it in 3D and there wasn't one single action element that warranted it. Just another way for them to make a few extra $$$s. /rant_over.

We saw it this morning. Mixed expectations and mixed reaction. It did leave me wanting to find out who actually died, who lived, and where they are going with the next installment.

I saw it this afternoon and thought it was great. I have seen them all and liked some more than others. I liked this one as much as any of the original three. It looks like there are two more installments coming out in '17 and '19. I'll definitely be seeing those too.
The theater we go to has these seats they call "D-Box" seats. They shake and vibrate and tip all directions. It was an awesome experience. Great movie. It was sort of like seeing family that you haven't seen in a long time. Impressed. Loved the special effects and like all the SW movies the sounds were uber cool. My wife even liked it and she hates my SciFi addiction.

I went with my 19 year old son who's a fan of all the films. Me being 44, I was a kid when the originals came out. I saw all but New Hope in theaters and enjoyed each and every one however, I didn't care for the Clone Wars or Revenge of the Sith so much. This new film really took me back! I loved the show. Found it a little slow at the start but once it picked up, I was hooked. I found myself searching for Luke as well. It was well done in my opinion, predictable at points but it entertained my old brain. The cliffhanger left me wanting more and had me asking many questions.

I saw it over the holidays with my two older kids. I don't know if it was low expectations or nostalgia but I got everything I wanted out of it. I could see a few of the plot twists coming and there was more referencing of past movies than I was expecting, but I had a great time and so did my kids (with whom I've watched all 6 of the earlier movies). It's good to have a few dissenting opinions in here just to show we're all different and to help avoid unrealistic expectations from those that haven't seen it yet. I was amazed that I managed to make it to the viewing without hearing any spoilers or basically anything about the movie outside of the trailer and that definitely helped.

I was amazed that I managed to make it to the viewing without hearing any spoilers or basically anything about the movie outside of the trailer and that definitely helped. That's actually why I went to see it when I did. I kept hearing "almost spoilers" on the radio and would have to quickly shut off the station for 3-4 minutes until I was sure it was over. Then guys from work started talking about it and I knew I had to go see it soon. I hate crowded places so I waited as long as I could. I might actually go see it again this weekend.
