Given that they're played through the same speaker configuration, are the Stangray and Maz Sr of comparable loudness and headroom?

Given that they're played through the same speaker configuration, are the Stangray and Maz Sr of comparable loudness and headroom? Pretty much, yes, they are. Once you get up to the extreme volume both these amps are capable of, it is hard to measure...nor does it really matter at that point. If the volume and master on the Senior are maxed, there will be a significant more drive tone than on the Stingray though. I've owned both at separate times, but recently had a chance to A/B them side by side at a music store. The Stang Ray is very thick, more emphasis on bass and treble, loud and clean...the Maz Sr has less bass, more mids, equally loud, with more gain on tap. Both great amps, I may revisit and buy another Senior one day...but for the time being the 'Ray is getting the job done very well.

I agree Bill. I've owned both as well, and currently have only the Stingray, but had them both at the same time for a while, and did plenty of A/Bing before I sold the MAZ SR.
Full volume levels were comparable, but the MAZ was a bit louder, and also dirtier. The Stingray seems louder than it really is, if that makes any sense. But it is much cleaner, with plenty of clarity, and by that I don't mean irritating high end. Using the HI inputs on either amp will increase the dirt factor.
I liked the Stingray's clean sound better, and it does pedals well, and since, I've always used pedals through a clean amp for dirt sounds, it was the better choice for me.
I've recently installed a NOS Mullard GZ34, and an Amperex Bugle Boy EF-86, and the amp has never sounded better. The Bugle Boy is simply incredible! Very rich, creamy tone across the spectrum, and very sweet sounding. It's the best EF86 I've tried in the Stingray yet. The Dario's and Mullards are nice, but this tube is in another ballpark altogether!

I do have both StingRay and Maz SR .They both are equally loud and have the same amount of headroom.I do use Z air brake with StingRay but not Maz SR and I do agree with Bill with the descriptions of both amps. Both have different tones, but Maz Sr is a bit more versatile without using OD pedals.Ray,on the other hand is the best clean amp I own.

Same question as above, compare Prescription ES to Stangray. Also if you have both which one do you prefer? They both sound great in the store. I have a Maz Sr. which I love but I always gig with a backup (this helps me rationalize another purchase) and my Maz has spoiled me. So far I'm leaning towards the StangRay. Thanks

Same question as above, compare Prescription ES to Stangray. Thanks I owned those two at the same time, and have a couple friends with them, so lots of opportunities to compare. The RxES is very bright and percussive compared to the mellower, smoother voiced Stingray. It is 45 watts, very powerful with tons of headroom. The secret weapon is the overdose. If you use an inefficient speaker (for smaller clubs), leave the overdose on, and get the amp volume to about 2:00, it's a dream to roll your guitar volume knob up and down picking out the exact clean or overdriven sound that works for you. Of course you can just kick it in for solos or more crunch chords as well. You're looking at three VERY nice amps, stratosphere! Another killer is the Rt 66...a one trick pony tonewise (lots of mids), but wow, with an RC Booster that amp will smoke. Good luck.

The two amps with the same cab and a 400Hz and 1kHz tone at clean levels on the waveform on a scope show the MAZ Sr as having 2.2db more clean output at 1 meter on axis dbSpl
If they seem to be the same level it is due to tone differences. Listen to an 18 watt Carmen Ghia vs a Marshall JTM-45 and you will see that the Carmen Ghia seems louder even though this is not the actual case.
