Head for versatility. Combo for convenience.

Head for versatility. Combo for convenience. Agree 100%, although I have sold all of my combos. I have two Dr. Z convertible cabs. Now I just throw one of those in the truck with the head for 90% of my gigs. Going from open to close back is a simple 6 screw operation and I can change it at the gig if needed.

Always been a head/cab guy. But this combo rules.

My Ghia head gets more use than my Maz Jr Combo just because it's lighter. I always thought it was cool to just walk in, drop down a nice combo amp, plug in, and play, but, dang, it's heavy!

Seems to me part of the magic of this amp lies in the combo. So I vote combo...

I have two Z combos. An M12 1x10 with a Gold and a Carmen Ghia 1x12 Mather small cab with a Blue. Amp in one hand, guitar in the other…one trip in and out, combos rule.

All good advice above--I have a z-lux head and love the fact I can pair it with any cab or combination of speakers. Also one thing to consider is a head is less prone to rattling tubes and high heat that can occur in a combo. The combo is a bit more convenient yes, and it is more expensive. I would be happy with either but opted to get the head and am not one bit sorry. Fantastic amp IMO.

Combo...

I had this internal debate when Doc was plotting the Z-Lux. I would have gone for the head, but the combination of lightweight cab and new Z speaker tipped the scale to the combo. Right decision for me as it is a perfect gig package.

Thanks everyone. Combo it is! I got mine Friday and was almost late to Church this morning because I was having so much fun with it.

Seems to me part of the magic of this amp lies in the combo. So I vote combo... I actually voted for the head, but there's no denying that Steve is right about the combo being magical. It's going to be a tough decision for me.

Don, you can always pick up a used head cab for the amp later on down the road, but here's the thing...it sounds so good in combo form with the Z12 speaker that you won't want to hook up anything else. Seems to me that it would be harder to go the other way, I don't see many people wanting to trade off that sweet 1/2" combo cab.

The combo just makes sense. The weight and the special designed speaker plus the thing looks like a work of art! Beautiful amp. It would be the perfect grab and go. Plus 20/40 watts. It's a done deal. It sounds like the perfect set up.
