Hi guys, Finally got my Z-Lux yesterday. It has been long to have it here in Paris... but I'm sure it worth it, doesn't it? I've had only a few minutes until now, but I have a whole day with my new toys tomorrow and nobody home. So, quickly, here are my first impressions: - It looks really great. I find that the thinner wood, the shape of the top of the amp and the black on black knobs make it the nicest looking Dr Z amp. Mine is blonde with tan grill by the way. - It made me realize how much my blonde Maz 8 turned green over the years! - I was really surprise when I switch the amp on... by the fan. I think I've read all I could on the Z-Lux, but don't remember a thing about that fan... which can be heard at low volume. But I quickly forgot it... - I was a little bit surprised seeing the speaker is @16 Ohms instead of 8 Ohms, as on all the Z-Lux pictures I've seen. It doesn't really matter... except for having it running aside my other combo speaker, which is @8 Ohms... - The first audio impression was all about how soft and silky this amp can be. Not thick and full the way the Therapy is, but some kind of round and still perfectly clear sound. That could be the most beautiful clean sound I've heard. - I really think this amp can be used at home at 20W and with its BrakeLite on 2 or 3. My sens of home volume can be quite loud - my neighbors are nice... or deaf (or both). - I've been surprised by the really low level of gain on this amp. I now realize how much gain I have on tap on the Maz 8 or had on the Therapy. And I like having gain available and be able to get real crunch with single pickups straight into the amp. But I'll work on that tomorrow and see how the Z-Lux reacts to my few pedals (the Archer ikon has been requested I think). - When I did get crunchy tones (when tubes went a little hot), I found it really different of my Maz (which I absolutely love, you may have noticed). It's less creamy but has some kind of grain I really really liked. The way bass fart just a little make me think I'll like it even more with my Duesenberg and its P90 and hum bucker... - Did I notice the amp looks amazing? Oh yes I think I did.

Awesome. Sounds like you got a great amp for what you were looking for tone wise. Congratulations!

Congrats on the new arrival. Do try the eq bypass. I really like it with all guitars, including ones with P90s.
The fan is a carryover from the JAZ combo. I recall that Doc was concerned that the combo wouldn't vent heat from the 4x6V6 as well as a head does. (He never made a Remedy combo, which is where the 4x6V6 20/40 thing started.) The fan can be a little strange, in my experience: sometimes it seems a bit loud, although never obtrusive at any volume above "real quiet"; other times I barely notice that it's running when I power up the amp.

Have fun with the new amp...odd that it came with 16ohm to me too as it seems Z usually has them at 8ohm

If I have had to choose, I would have went with 8Ohms, just in case I want to use a Todd Y cable to have both my Scumnico and Z speaker together (alnico + ceramic, both @98db, would have been fun I guess). If I see the good side of it, I have a temptation less! ;-)

Thanks! I'll report a little bit later about my guitar day (next one scheduled on monday ) No suspense: great, great amp and great, great complement for my Maz 8. So different and still so great (I know, I said great five times in two lines. Bim: 6 times!)

I was going to order a Z-LUx but I have so many great Zs now I think I may just pick up a Strymon Flint to stick in front of them for some sweet trem and verb.

Respectfully, Dave Thanks Dave but I'll just one new from the local dealer ! I went to the dealer today to buy it but I passed on it because my wife has it on her 'Xmas List' for me ! She always complains that I keep buying potential gifts for myself ! So. I bought 2 bottles of Scotch instead Oh, and those were on her Xmas List as well

Thank you guys. I know you'll understand that I don't feel too much to talk about guitar these days, but in no way does it mean that I don't like this amp. I had a few moments with it, both clean and dirty, with or without pedals and with my strat, tele and Duesenberg. It sounds wonderful in any configuration. I love it. I'll give you more details and impressions later. (If that interest you in any way of course! ) All the best.

Hi guys, As I just told Brian (purpletele), Paris have came back to life these days, and so do I. It's been hard times and I can still feel fear here, there (and everywhere? ), but we are back in the game. More than anything else, children's joy, humour and love are the best treatment to these kinds of pain. Of course, love and friendship has their major role to play, but culture has it to. Movies, books, food, wine, sport and music. I've had a really nice hour with my guitar yesterday. Plain, simple Dan Auerbach songs with my Tele into my Z-Lux, with quite a bit of reverb and tremolo. It felt really great and the magic of music appeared: no thoughts, no fear, just music and pleasure.

Anytime I go thru ordeals like you've been having, I always start my guitar practice with Let It Be, and then roll on to the fun stuff. Always seems to put things in a better light.
