That I'd find an amp built today, that could make me sell off a vintage Fender to own. My 61 Brown Super is off to a new owner. And I own a Stang Ray 212. Built like a tank, and sounds like a dream. Thank you Dr Z. and Mr. Paisley. My wife chewed my arse out for buying it, but it was worth it. -andy- ;D

As they say..."It's easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission..."
Where'd you get the Ray? What color is it?

I've got the ugliest Brown Super you've ever seen. The vinyl on the top was replaced poorly with brown vinyl from and old Brown bandmaster. It had a homemade baffle board in it when I got it also. Oh yea and the output transformer started smoking so I had it replaced and the baffle board and grille cloth at the same time. Then I installed 2 used Kendrick 10s that I had laying around. I've probably got about $400 at most in it. That normal channel on those amps is a thing of beauty, reminds me of a Z28 but a lot louder. The Vibrato is a wonder also but that channel doesn't sound as good for some reason. Those amps in good shape bring some pretty good money. Not mine I guess, so I'll keep it. I think I've only heard of a couple of guys that didn't like a Ray. I like mine a lot! You won't miss your Super, until you pick up the Ray!

I went through that same process...
"I do this for a living honey, I need professional gear"
Well you do, at least now people think that I know what I'm doing.

I also never thought that I'd say goodbye to a Vintage Fender, without some traders remorse during the first few weeks. I wish I'd done it sooner. This amp is the cat's arse. -andy-

Yep. The 'ray has the mojo, that's for sure. I too have sold off all my Fenders except my Cyber Twin, which has devalued so much it's not worth selling. And none of the Fenders came close to the sound I'm getting from my Stingray. Holy cow!

I saw Steve Winwood and his guitar player using Cyber Twins on Austin City Limits. They made me want one! If someone can ever actually imitate the power supply of a good tube amp they would have something. I play my Ray every day. I'm still crazy about it. I've been using a 5V4, it seems a bit quieter, but not much.

I saw Greg Koch play thru a cyber-twin. That guy can really play, but even with his chops and tasty licks, he sounded flat and two dimensional through the CT. It was loud, but brittle and sterile, lacking warmth. I had tried one earlier, and was underwhelmed. Greg closed the book for me. -andy-
