I just bought a Ghia head and I'm trying to decide on a cab to go with it. I really want to bring highlight some of the vox DNA in the amp.I will be using this primarily at church and I'm going for a "modern worship sound", chimey with a medium break up. Think Hillsong, Bethel, Elevation ect. The cab will be in an amp room and miced so volume is not an issue. If I get a 2x12 with two diffrent speakers I can mic both speakers separatey if necessary.
My first thought is an avatar 2x12 traditional open back. Is a Dr z cab better? As far as speaked go, I'm thinking either a blue/gold (I would love to get a Z Wreck one day so this could Cary over), or a blue/G12H30. Or possibly a 1x12 with just a blue or a gold.
Then there is the Z Best cab. I hear amazing this about this can but would it get the sound I'm going for?
This is first head I have owned and I'm new to the speaker selecting game, so any advice is appreciated.

I would go celestion blues then in an open back cab. The next option could be a Greenback and an Anniversary G12H. The blues will give chime and Vox and the other a more Matchless DC30 kind of vibe.

Usually I put my Anni through an open back 1x10 with an Eminence Ramrod.

Welcome to the forum..
You can't go wrong with a 1x12 blue open back. If it's in an amp room, no real need to go with a 2x12.

Either 1 or 2 blues in an open back cab. You won't be disappointed.

The only reason I was thinking about a 2x12 was the possibility of moving 2 diffrent speakers. I know alot of people love the blue/gold combo in a zwreck.

Before the end of the year I plan to respeaker my 2x12 cabinet with 2 WGS speakers, a ET65 and a G12c/s. Right now I have two Vin 30s in the cab and it sounds good; I'm just going try something else and see how the Ghia and my other Zs sound through the WGSs.

Definitely go open back, and alnico 12" for that tone.
2x12 is not always better, in my opinion. The Z best is probably not quite right for what you want. It really sounds, to me, like being in a room with a good closed-back 4x12 cabinet! Just too full and "quick" responding for what you are playing in modern worship stuff.
Avatar makes great cabs. Doc makes better cabs, but either is good.
My vote is an open back cab with a Blue, or if you want a cool reconditioned hemp coned alnico, check out "hempopatomus" speakers on Reverb.com goofy name, but I have three of his rebuilds and all are amazing.
Best, Eddie

If you do decide on an Avatar cab, ask them to turn the grill cloth 90 degrees to match a Z cab grill. Their black w/gold cloth is a very close match to the tan Z grill cloth..

Thanks for the tip. I think I'm going to get a traditional avatar 2x12 with blue and G12H 30 speakers. This should be a great sounding can that can be used with future amps as well.... did I mention I REALLY want a zwreck?

Howdy,
Chime? My two recommendations are as follows (BTW, you'll want an AlNiCo speaker no matter what you choose): 1. Weber AlNiCo silver bell (30 watts, with Pre-Rola treatment) 2. Celestion Blue. The Silver Bell has the best clean tones I've heard with my Ghia and adds some needed bottom end. The 'Blue is a bit better for medium raunch and has a somewhat more complex tone than the Silver Bell. Oh, and get a Dr.Z 1x12 cab. Enjoy!

I have a Blue and a G12H30 that I sometimes run together with my Ghia. I usually disconnect the G12H30 early on because the Ghia simply wants more Blue. I got the G12H30 for my Route 66, and looking back, I wish I would have bought two Blues. The Celestion Blue could be the greatest speaker of all time.

My plan is, some time after Christmas, to upgrade to either 2 blues or a blue and gold.

I always thought a 1x12 with a blue was an automatic. Sort of a reference configuration.

My first Ghia was a 2x10 combo with the DOCS 10's…sounded great , I loved it but it became too heavy for my old arthritic hands to manage. At home I paired it up with a Z 1x12 cab with a Blue…"Glorious"! more punch than a boxing match and enough chime to sell to the nearest church bell. I now have a Ghia in a Mather 1x12 cab with a Blue, I'm done. This just works for me. I had a Gold in there for about six months…very nice, but the Blue is the cat's a##. Just my two cents.

My head will arive on Tuesday and my cab will be here Friday. This is agonizing. Especially hearing about all of your sweet tones.

No one's mentioned the V30. I know there are a lot of people who like that speaker with the Ghia. It may not have the tone you're looking for, but it does the trick for a lot of folks.
A blue matched with a G12H will be ok. You'll get the mids from the blue, and the bass from the G12H.

So I'm planning on eventually replacing the g12h30 with a Gold but I saw the alnico cream yesterday and now I'm considering that!

So I'm planning on eventually replacing the g12h30 with a Gold but I saw the alnico cream yesterday and now I'm considering that! !!! C Blue flavor but way more robust, big bottom end, great mids and singing highs. I've paired one with a G12H Anniversary in a Z-Best. Tonequest complete, for me... Enjoy the ride!
