Has anyone tried to put a Stingray/Stang Ray combo into a Vox AC30 road case like the ones on ebay for $250. I know the Stingray is the same length and depth, but is 1/2 taller. Not sire if that will make it to snug.

Nah, trust me, just get one that was designed for the amp. I speak from experience, a guy at a well known case company in LA that had just returned from a liquid lunch (w/ aromatic herbal inhalation therapy involved) measured my MAZ Studio Deluxe combo.. and didn't allow for the 'slant' of the cab. That sucker don't fit any better now than it did the day I bought it. Doc will testify, after having to re-torque everything from the trannies to the tube sockets every 100,000 miles/km. And if you throw it under a bus, take your reverb pan out and keep it with you IN the bus if you'd like to continue enjoying your 'verb 'til tour's end without a little 'duck tape and balin' wahr' interlude ever so often....

If $250 is "your price," there ARE cases on eBay that are designed for Z amp combos. That's where I bought mine! Although the auction was for a MAZ 2x12 combo, the dimensions are the same.

What do you think of the quality of the ARE case? LOL... oh, the limitations of the written word. Perhaps I shoud've used italics instead of CAPS to indicate the inflection of my voice? When I read your post, it seemed you were looking for something in the $250 range. I was intending to convey that there are cases available on eBay in that price range that will fit properly... not that there is a case manufacturer under the brand name: ARE. If anything the cases are ATA, but that means they are "airline approved." For $249 + shipping, you can get one that has 1/4" ply (not counting the foam padding on the inside)... for $30 more, you can get the one with 3/8" ply. I opted for the 1/4" and think it's plenty protective for my needs.

...not to mention how HEAVY a case is when made of 1/2" or thicker ply!

The $250 price was just an example, because I have not found a production case for the Stingray. combo800 suggestion to use the Maz 2X12 is a good one, but I haven't seen one of those either. I also have an AC30 so my idea was to get double duty out of a case.

My Maz SR 2-12 is just a little taller than an AC30 but other than that it fits fine in the same case I have.

Here's a link for the MAZ 2x12 combo case... cgi.ebay.com/ATA-Dr-Z-MAZ-38-Senior-2X12-Amp-Case-W-Casters-NEW_W0QQitemZ7404900466QQihZ016QQcategoryZ10171QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemEdit: it looks like the link it too long. Either copy-n-paste it, or search eBay for "Dr. Z amps" and scroll down to the bottom of the page... it's below the private party auctions, where eBay stores put their items.
