Hi, I am really interested in this amp. Sounds perfect from all the reviews I have read, but have a question
Can someone explain to me what is meant that this amp has the "front end" of the Maz.
I have owned a Maz 18 for the past 9 years and have had a love hate relationship with this amp. So does the Z lux have that in your face brightness and midrange the Maz has?
Thanks

It's not identical to a MAZ, but it's similar: Volume and Master, passive treble, bass and middle. Lacks Cut control and hi-lo jack, but has tremolo, as you probably know. I think Dr Z did tweak some signal components.
Part of the "brightness" you experience is likely the EL84s. The Z-Lux sounds quite different with its 4 x 6V6 tubes. The amp can be bright if you want it to be, but it's easy to dial that out. Heck, I usually run it with the eq bypass on. Importantly, unlike the MAZ bypass, Doc did not completely eliminate the tone section from the circuit. As a result, the volume increase is less (than on the MAZ).
All that said, if you don't like the sound of a blackface Fender Deluxe, this probably isn't the amp for you. (It can do way more than a Deluxe to be sure.)

I've owned the Maz 18 and currently own the Z-Lux and although the front end has the same tubes and knobs, they sound completely different to my ears. The Maz leans heavily in the Vox/Marshall camp, while the Z-Lux is indisputably leaning in the Fender camp. But it has all of the good Fender traits without any of the negative ones (like farty bottom end for example).
