Love my Lux combo and want to add an extension cab. I have 3 different speakers and my question is which one would be the best balance with the new Z speaker in the combo: Celestion Gold, G12H30, or Creamback 65.
My cab is the Z convertible 1x12.
Thanks for any advice. Dickie

I'd vote Creamback.

Thanks I tried the cream back last night-- could have been positioning, but it seemed quite a bit louder than the onboard speaker. Is it more efficient? -- or should it be the same volume? I think all of these are good speakers but is one a better sonic match to the new z speaker? Also, and forgive a dumb question, but since the Lux is 20/40 watts, should the speaker watt ratings matter? (The cream is 65, the gold is 50, and the G12H is 30.) does this make any difference?

Creamback is the only one of the three that I have no experience with, but the other two (the Gold and G12H30) are both quite a lot louder than the Z speaker. You might wish to consider getting a second Z speaker so that they are identically matched. I think all of your speakers will sound ok (great in fact), but they are all going to be louder than the Z speaker.

The gold and G12H-30 speakers are very efficient at 100db, so they will be louder than the Z speakers, probably quite a bit louder at that. The G12M-65 creamback is less efficient, 97db and I believe the Z speaker is also 97db. Maybe the difference in cabs or like you said position made the creamback seem louder? Maybe the frequencies each speakers enhances might make one speakers seem louder as well? The real test with the creamback would be to swap speakers, putting the creamback in the Z-Lux combo and the Z speaker in the 1x12 cab.
I have not heard the new Z speakers yet so cannot comment on a matching speakers to go with it. Of course it is preference too. You may want a matching tone speakers then find you like a different toned speakers that brings out other frequencies of the amp.
As far as speakers watt ratings you won't hurt any of those speakers with the 40 watt setting of the amp if that is what you are asking since you would be running two speakers and splitting the load. Even with just running 1 of the 3 Celestion speakers, you would just have to be careful with the G12H-30 at the 40 watt setting as the other two Celestions are 50 and 65 watt. If you are talking speakers loudness I do not know if that makes a difference as those are power handling ratings.

I think Mark nailed it. I run my Z Lux head through a 1x12 Z convertible cab with a Creamback and absolutely love it. The relatively low efficiency coupled with the early breakup of the Creamback really suit the Z Lux. FWIW I tried a Gold and a G12H30 70th Anniv and the Creamback was the clear winner. Given all the fanfare for the new Z 12" speaker, I imagine this would be a great pairing.

Yes you guys have it, I obtained the SPL info from the Doc himself via the link that Simpleton posted. I see on the Dr Z amp web site that the SPL on the spec sheet is listed as 98.9 however. drzamps.com/product/dr-z-12-speaker/

A blend of the Z speaker and the Creamback is what I may do. Both @ 97db a blend of US & UK tones. Nice!

Might sound counter intuitive, but I use a celestion blue as an extension speaker. It sounds fantastic.
