For the first time ever, I used my Collings 290 at a gig. I don't know why it took me so long to do so. What a great guitar to pair with the Z-Lux. Once again, I kept the amp in bypass mode the entire night. I had the Z Drive and tapped it frequently. This time I set the green side for mild OD rather than cleanish boost; red was set for higher gain as before. I ended up not using the RYRA Klone at all. (I may move it to after the Z Drive.) Only other effect was delay for some songs. Tone for days, bright and crisp when needed, driven and sustaining on demand, it was all there. Everyone in the band noticed the tone and how it cut through the mix. The Corsa-modded LP has been bumped to the second team, and my JAZ may be looking for a new home.

The Collings is the only guitar that I can't get out of my head totally. I loved everything about the ones I've tried. Z Lux trumps JAZ? Seems like you've made a love connection

Seems like you've made a love connection JAZ is great, but the Z-Lux is a little bit "more" with the bypass engaged. However, I was just now playing through the JAZ and digging it.

It really IS ' Collect them all and trade them with your friends' isn't it? They all have that little something different.

My JAZ is a 2x10 and has an effects loop, so it's "quite different" from the Z-Lux when I want to rationalize keeping both

O...Z Lux has no effects loop right? Correct. I asked Doc about that possibility prior to the amp's release. He said there was already a lot of stuff on the back panel, so he went with no loop. Evidently it was an option on the JAZ, not a standard feature. In other words, like the MAZ effect loop prior to the latest models.
