Hey all, I'm new here, just got a blonde CG head and I just can't believe how amazing these things are. If all I had was a guitar and a ghia I don't really think I would "need" anything else.
I have been checking out info on quite a few forums as far as all the cab, speakers, tubes recommendations and look forward to experimenting but I gotta say it just romps through the cab of my hot rod deluxe - I have a wgs et 65 in it. However, I am looking for a cabinet and am pretty close to pulling the trigger on a new Avatar (so I can have it matching the head). Haven't 100% made up my mind about 1x12 vs 2x10 yet, but leaning towards 2x10. I know I have to wait 30 days to look at the buy/sell section of this forum but if anyone has a line on a smokin deal on a cab it would be appreciated. Looking forward to hanging out here.

Welcome to the forum, rwh, and congrats on the new amp. Lots of folks have said the same thing as you--that they could totally live with just the Ghia alone.
Also, FYI, if you go for an Avatar speaker cabinet (they're a great deal for the money) with the "gold weave" (which matches Dr. Z's "tan") or their "silver weave" (which matches Dr. Z's "salt+pepper") grillcloth, be sure to specify that they run the grillcloth sideways from their normal orientation. That way it will be running in the same direction as on your Ghia.
Alternatively, I know Dr. Z's cabinets are a little more expensive, but they're worth the extra money if you can afford it. Whereas Avatar cabinets are "very good to excellent," I'd say Dr. Z's are "premium." For some reason they're also a tad lighter in weight than Avatar's standard cabs, which is an added bonus.
Can't really go wrong either way, though... Enjoy!

Congratulations on the new amp, and welcome to the forum. If you go with an Avatar speaker cab, be sure to ask them to rotate the grill cloth 90 degrees - to match the Dr Z cloth. The Black w/Gold grill cloth they offer matches the tan Z grill cloth almost perfectly.

Welcome, and glad to hear you got a Z!! They're contagious, though. I started with one too. Now I have 5.

Howdy,
Congrats on your new Ghia; it's the best thing since M&Ms.

Well i think i scored a good deal on a Dr Z 2x10 loaded with the Dr Z designed 70 watt speakers. Since i lean a lot toward country and some blues i thought they might be a good fit.

The 2x10 Dr.Z cab is great with the CG, good choice.

Welcome!
I honestly haven't found a version/tube setup/speaker combination that could make the Ghia sound bad. Different, sure. Bad, no.
Have fun experimenting!

Welcome to the forum! The Ghia is a great amp. Mine sees use in everything from a 5 piece Country band to a 9 piece horn/variety band.

Great advice here on the grill cloth--I got an Avatar 2-12 with the silver weave years ago and love it but wish I would have known that the grill cloth runs a different way than the good doctors. Not a big deal in any way, but I would have changed it if I knew.
