Recipe for a Z Lux: Equal parts (1) Binge reading every Z Lux post on the forum; (2) Binge-watching every Z Lux review video on the inter-webs; (3) Stumbling across a PSA post on the BST by Whiskeyzulu; (4) Obsessing for a short period of time and wallah! The Z-Stork drops a Blonde Z Lux on your front door.
I spent about 30 minutes of hack playing and tinkering with knobs before reaching the 9:00 pm "neighbors may hate you" threshold. So far I am very impressed. I regretted selling my JAZ 20/40 a few months back, and this was like a reunion. I'm terrible at describing the tones of any amp, but the best description I can give is that it feels like my Strat is breathing. Complexity abound. The reverb goes from subtle to a mile deep. The trem sent me into CCR riff-fits!
So far I have run it through a G12H30 and a Cream Back. My initial impression was that the G12H30 sounded tighter, with a more pronounced bass and more chime on the top-end. The lower efficiency Cream Back allowed me to achieve more drive at a lower volume, but had a more muddled warm tone. By no means was I able to give either speaker a proper workout, but these are my initial thoughts. I have a Austin Speaker Works Alnico Elegante sitting around, so that will be my next experiment just for kicks.
Problem is, I am a hobbyist and have run a two-amp house for some time. Thus, one of these three is going to have to bow out: Z Lux, Remedy or MV Ghia. A photo never hurts...

2 amp household,, eh !
Well, that Anni Ghia is about 45% of the size of the Lux. So, you have 2.45 amps and that rounds done to 2. Problem solved !
Nice Z-Lux head........there will be one in my future at some point.

Dude that looks amazing!
If I had to let one go, I'd let the Remedy and 1x12 cab go....keep the Ghia and run her through the blonde cab!

If they would have explained those types of things in Dr. Z terms back in college, maybe I would have paid more attention

Thanks to all for the congrats. I was able to steal another half hour this evening to put the Z Lux through some more paces. It is just sublime. It has more chime to it than you would expect from a 6V6 amp, but still has that stout punch and mid-presence that you hope for. I also spent about 5 minutes before work just drinking a cup of coffee and staring at it with a big grin. Too much? Oh well...
I played it exclusively through a Cream Back today and was not disappointed. I enjoyed the warmth of that speaker with the Z Lux. I should have more time tomorrow to swap the ASW Alnico Elegante into a cab tomorrow to give it a whirl. I haven't heard much about this amp through an alnico speaker yet. We shall see...
So far, my guess it that the MV Remedy will get the boot. Another awesome amp, but I don't play with saturated overdrive and the Z Lux can certainly handle the slightly overdriven 6V6 tone I crave. But again, we shall see...

That's so sweet, congrats! I really think you ought to keep all three. At least until I can afford to buy your Remedy! Seriously, I haven't yet met a Z amp that I wouldn't cringe to sell. I may have to at some point, but I'm at the point in life where I can indulge myself a bit, so why not? I know, I know. It's a disease but what great symptoms it exhibits, huh? Really...keep 'em all!!!
