On Monday 04/10/06, I went to Alpha Music on my lunch break to pick up a new knob for for my Addrock Boostmaster pedal (My great dane stepped on it ;D). H.L. Wilson, the creator of the Addrock line of pedals, gives me the knob, and tells me that they just got a STINGRAY head in. They thought it was supposed to be a Stangray for a guy who backed out of the deal. But it is a STINGRAY head, Red with blond faceplate, serial #41. He told me that he hadn't publicized it yet, and after thinking it over for a few milliseconds, the plastic jumped out of my wallet, and #41 came home with me! Must be fate ;D!
I've had it for a couple of days now, running it through my Zbest. It sounds great, but definitely different than the 2x12 combo I tried a couple of months back. I may have to try an open back 2x12 with Blues or Webers, or possibly the G12H30, and one Blue or Weber Blue Dog. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good through the G12/V30 Zbest, but that setup doesn't reveal the true character of the amp.
After the glow wears off, I'm going to have to do some serious A/Bing with my MAZ 38 head. I Love that head as well, but unless some windfall comes my way, I really cant afford to keep both. So far the Stingray definitely takes pedals better and has much more natural sustain. The MAZ has a better bottom and more kick. Either way I win. And if for some reason I decide to keep the MAZ, I'm sure I can get what I paid for the Stingray ;D!
Tough days ahead, but it sure is nice to be in 'Rayville!

Congrats on the amp! That's another red with blond face plate Stingray in the world. A couple of weeks ago I picked up a MAZ 38 NR head. I love the 38 through the Z-Best, but I still don't like the Stingray with anything but the open back 2X12 with Blues. You're right, the 38 has a better bottom and more "impact", for lack of a better term. It's also more versatile with the full tone controls. However, there's nothing like the Stingray. I think it's a classic in the amp world. Hopefully you can find a way to keep both amps.
