Is the z-lux self biasing of does it need to be biased when replacing the tubes? This has probably been asked before and if so I apologize, but cannot remember. Thanks for any advice.

I believe we've covered this in another thread but I believe it is self biasing - the same as the JAZ 20/40.

Stretching this topic a bit further... If the Z-Lux (like its predecessor, the JAZ 20/40) is based on a similar output section to the Remedy, are the JJ-brand 6V6's required as they are in the Remedy?

It is self biasing and, yes, I believe Doc specs the JJs for a reason. I suppose it's possible some NOS tubes might work, but that's best answered by Dr Z.

The Z Lux is self biased, it runs a split load cathode bias for you techy guys. The JJ's are the stoutest currant production 6V6 available. I run the plate voltage a bit high for some NOS 6V6's, and you will need a very tight matched quad of 6V6's for the Half Power circuit. An extremely matched medium grade quad of NOS 6V6's will be difficult at best to find, trust me not some guy trying to sell you expensive old tubes.

So maybe we should stock up on the JJ 6V6 while it's still in production, and before they decide to make changes? I hate the unstable nature of the tube market...

Z hey doc, what is the highest plate voltage that you would feel comfortable with using nos RCA black plate 6v6gt?

Under 400V say 375 to 380V
