For you guys out there that has the convertible cabinet. Which do you prefer, to have the middle panel out or installed? why? I have mine out but wondered how much of a difference ther eis in tone or projection with the panel on. thoughts/opinions

When I was running my convertible 1x12 , I generally preferred to have the middle panel off except for bigger outdoor gigs. With it off I felt it had a bigger "3D" kind of sound indoors , and with it on outdoors I felt it projected better and had more punch at higher volumes.

Always the middle out (only). Why?.... I dunno..... Maybe because Frank ^^^^ plays it mostly this way....

Depends on the situation and speaker for me. If we are not mic'ing the amps I have it open. If I need to be a little more in control of volume it is on.

It's great both ways, but I have the panel on, and with my Galaxie and Weber Cali it sounds so good I don't want to change a thing. When I got the cabinet, put the speaker in, and closed it up, it immediately gave me what I wanted to hear so even though I took the panel off 1 time (sounded good too) I leave it on. Very solid cab. Very happy.

I use mine with my Route 66 and I keep it closed.

If I'm playing country and using it with an amp like my Mantaray or Ghia, I take the panel off. It becomes more of a combo and fills the stage better. For rock stuff with my Maz Jr or Mini-Z, back on. I also have a few cabs loaded with different speakers for different applications and genres.

I tried mine closed after posting this and reading opinions, I still find that I like the open back more. It seems more open and fuller and broader sounding than with the cabinet closed up.

It's a great cab, I like mine open. Love that swirly 3D effect of open back cabs. Z-12 speaker BTW.

If you have an Alnico speaker, you'll want it open for sure. But if you have ceramic, you get to choose which you prefer.
